'Dogs clip Eagles, up record to 4-0 from staff reportsHampton's baseball team stayed a perfect (4-0) on the season with a sweep of Providence Academy on Friday. The Bulldogs easily won game one by the score of 13-2 with Brandon Barnett (1-0) tossing a one-hitter. Freshman Cody Montgomery gave Hampton plenty of firepower at the plate, going 2-for-3 and knocking in two runs. Adam Miller was proficient with the stick as well, hitting 2-for-2 and also driving in two runs. In game two, Josh Cole picked up the win as the 'Dogs gained a 4-2 victory. Miller again was 2-for-2 batting as he scored two runs in the contest. Overall, the Bulldogs outhit the Eagles 9 to 1 in the first contest and 8 to 3 in the second game. WARRIORS TOP 'LANDERS from staff reports Todd Caldwell pitched a one-hitter leading Happy Valley to a 5-0 win over Cloudland in a Carter County Invitational contest. Caldwell struck out 14 batters in the Warrior win. Ryan Garland provided the Maroon and White with needed offense going 1-for-3 at the plate. Also in action at the Carter County, Johnson County went 2-1 over the weekend. They dropped a 13-0 contest to Sullivan Central on Friday. The Longhorns came back strong to beat Cloudland 12-2 in their next game and rounded out their action with a 10-4 win over Avery County. UNICOI EDGES OUT LADY WARRIORS from staff reports Unicoi County beat out Happy Valley 3-2 in a tough early season contest between the Watauga Conference foes.
