Lady Cougars down Patriots in prep tennis

   Bouncing back from a season-opening loss to Unicoi County, the Sullivan Central girls defeated Sullivan East 6-3 in prep tennis activity on Thursday afternoon.
   The Lady Cougars had lost to Unicoi 6-0, so their performance against East a nice turnaround.
   Central's top three seeds won in singles play, with No. 1 Stacey Wingate beating Emily Jones 8-3, No. 2 Kylee Looney downing Sarah Taffey 8-2 and No. 3 Whitney Dougherty topping Stephanie Griffin 8-4.
   The top two doubles teams for the Lady Cougars also prevailed, with No. 1 Wingate and Looney besting Sarah and Anna Taffey 8-2, and Dougherty and Ashley Miller taking an 8-0 win.
   Central's boys were also coming off a 6-0 season-opening loss to Unicoi, and although they were unable to beat the Patriots, they did make improvement, losing 6-3.
   The Cougars' No. 5 singles player, Tanner Looney, outlasted James Craft for a 9-8 (11-9) win, and James Eaton tripped Jim King 8-5 in a No. 6 match.
   Looney and Eaton triumphed in a No. 3 doubles match, edging Craft and Jason Milhorn 9-8 (7-3).
