Lady Buffs swept at Brevard

   BREVARD, N.C. -- The Milligan College Lady Buffs softball team lost both games of their doubleheader to Brevard (N.C.) College Thursday afternoon, losing by scores of 4-1 and 3-1.
   Milligan falls to 18-10 overall and 4-2 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.
   In the first game, Milligan jumped out to a one run lead in the top of the fourth inning. Junior Brooke Davis led the inning off with a single. Megan Aldridge grounded out and Ashley Mashburn reached base with a single followed by a bunt single from Leah Fritts. After a fly ball from Ellen Stoots, Rebecca Gilley scored Davis with a single.
   Brevard scored a run in the bottom of the fourth inning as Ashley Rice's RBI single brought home Vanessa Marlowe.
   The Tornados scored three more runs in the sixth inning. Caitlin Jascur had a RBI single and Heidi Morgan had a two run single.
   In the loss, Brandy Waddle pitched six innings, giving up four runs, three earned runs on five hits with five strikeouts. Susan Wynne picked up the win for Brevard; she went seven innings allowing one run on seven hits with four strikeouts.
   At the plate for Milligan, Brooke Davis went 2-for-2 with one run and one walk.
   In game two, Milligan jumped out to a one run lead in the second inning. Davis led off the inning with a single followed by a RBI single from senior Shelby Banion.
   Brevard answered in the second inning with two runs as Chelsea Christ had an RBI double and Heidi Morgan scored another run with a sacrifice fly in center field.
   The Lady Tornados came back with another run in the third inning as Lori McGeary scored on a double by Vanessa Marlowe.
   The losing pitcher for the Lady Buffs was junior Traci Harrison as she pitched six innings giving up three runs, two earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts. Picking up the win for Brevard, Rachel Howard, as she went seven innings giving up one run on two hits.
   At the plate for Milligan in the second game, Shelby Banion was 1-for-2 with one RBI.
   Milligan will host Bluefield (Va.) College in AAC action Friday afternoon at Anglin Field as the double header starts at 2 p.m.
