Sullivan North student arrested for handgun possession

From Staff Reports

Sullivan County Sheriff's officers on Wednesday morning arrested a Sullivan North High School student who was allegedly carrying a handgun in his book bag.
School officials told police the juvenile showed the handgun to two other students who reported the incident to assistant principals at the school.
The weapon, a semiautomatic pistol, reportedly belonged to the juvenile's father, and the student said he had a key to the gun box where the weapon was kept at his home.
The student told police he brought the gun to school to scare two subjects, not students, who had been threatening him at the bus stop.
The juvenile was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon on school property. He was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center in Johnson City and will be arraigned in Sullivan County Juvenile Court today.
