Bulldogs take two from Highlanders

   Close games went the way of the Hampton Bulldogs on Monday afternoon.
   Playing on their home diamond, the 'Dogs registered a 3-2, 5-4 baseball sweep of Cloudland during opening-day action for both teams.
   Game 1 saw the Highlanders jump on top 1-0 in the top of the third inning, but Hampton answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame.
   The two teams scored a run apiece in the fourth as Eric Cole picked up the win on the mound, giving Clint Steiner, whose team committed four errors, a tough loss.
   Cole allowed three hits in five innings of work, and Adam Miller, going 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs, led Hampton at the plate.
   Leading 4-0 after three innings in the second game, the 'Dogs were forced to hold on for the victory as the 'Landers scored two runs in each of the final two frames.
   Hampton prevailed despite making four errors. Miller pitched a complete-game victory while Justin Waycaster was 1-for-2 with a pair of runs.
   Miller and Cloudland starter Mark Byrd, who also went the distance, yielded just four hits apiece.
