Buffaloes complete sweep of Cavaliers

   The Milligan College baseball team defeated Appalachian Athletic Conference foe UVA-Wise by the score of 13-3 Sunday afternoon at Anglin Field to complete a three-game sweep of the Cavaliers.
   The win pushes Milligan to 13-9 overall and 6-2 in the AAC. UVA-Wise falls to 3-11-1 overall and 1-9 in conference play.
   Milligan took a three-run lead over the Cavs in the third inning. Junior Jacob McAllister started the inning with an infield single and would advance to second on a balk by Wise's pitcher, Travis Fannon.
   Sophomore Will Little had a base hit, and David Rusaw would bring McAllister around to score on a fielder's choice.
   Another Fannon balk moved Rusaw to second base, and he advanced to third on a passed ball that was also ball four to Dustin Price. Price would move to second base on a second passed ball by the Cavs' catcher, Jason Matlock.
   Rusaw would come around to score on a sacrifice fly ball to center field by Nathan Meade. Fannon could not field the ball hit back to him by Thomas Lister, and Price scored the third run of the inning.
   The Buffs pushed the lead to four runs in the fourth inning. With one out, McAllister reached on a base hit and would be brought home with a RBI double from Rusaw.
   Wise cut the lead in the top half of the fifth inning. B.J. Veronee led off the inning with a single and would steal second base. He would score on a RBI single off of the bat of Justin Wyatt.
   Milligan would put two more runs on the board in the seventh inning. With one out, Meade reached safely to first on an infield hit, then freshman Alex Della Mora would move Meade over with his double. Both Meade and Della Mora scored on a double from senior Brad Hitch.
   The Cavs did not go away as they tried to comeback on the Buffs. In the eighth inning, Matlock led the inning off with a double followed by a single from Steve Proctor. Matlock scored on A.J. Lucadamo's base hit and Proctor came home on an error by Price at third base.
   Milligan would end the game in the eighth inning. The seven-run inning was started by Little reached safely on first on an error by third baseman Andrew Anderson and would steal second base.
   Rusaw was walked. Little and Rusaw would steal third and second, respectively, on a double steal. Price reached first on a walk.
   Meade reached first on a fielder's choice as Little was forced out at home. Della Mora would bring Rusaw and Price around to score on a base hit. Meade and Della Mora pulled off another double steal as Meade went to third and Della Mora to second.
   With two runners in scoring position, Miller cleared the bases with a two run single. Wise went to the bullpen to bring Fred Allen on in relief. His first batter, Nathan Chandler would get a hit off him and Hitch grounded out.
   McAllister reached first with a walk, and Little would end the game with a bases-loaded double to bring three runs home.
   The winning pitcher for Milligan was senior Chad Davis as he went eight innings, giving up three runs, two runs were earned on six hits.
   At the plate for Milligan, Jacob McAllister was 3-for-3 with a double and a walk with three runs scored. Brian Miller and Alex Della Mora each went 2-for-3 as Miller had two RBIs and Della Mora scored two runs.
   Also, the Buffs had six stolen bases in the game, with two from Will Little, along with one each from Rusaw, Meade, Della Mora and Lister.
   The next game for Milligan will be a non-conference game at Anglin Field as the Buffaloes play host to Lincoln Memorial University Tuesday evening at 5:00 p.m.
