Cobras too strong for Buffs

from staff reports

The Milligan College men's tennis team lost its first home match of the season on Monday, falling 9-0 to the nationally-ranked Virginia Intermont Cobras.
In No. 1 doubles, freshmen Ryan Reynolds and Tom Jones lost 8-6, and senior Adam Campbell lasted three strong sets before losing to Robby Pierce 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 in singles play.
Milligan's Coach Rich Aubrey was content with his team's first effort of the season.
"VI is obviously a very strong team," he said. "They played without at least three of their top six players and beat us soundly. I am pleased with the way we hit at times today.
"Adam went to three sets at No. 4, and Tom and Ryan could have just as easily won at No. 1 doubles. Tough matches like today's will force our team to grow up quickly."
Milligan will take the courts again on Thursday in Greeneville, where it will face Tusculum College at 2 p.m.
