EHS band receives superior ratings in concert festival

From Staff Reports

Members of the Elizabethton High School Band competed in the East Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Upper Area Concert Festival on Thursday and Friday and received superior ratings for their performances.
"The band received superior ratings in all categories," said Shirley Taylor, president of the EHS Band Booster program, adding that the bands were judged on their choice of music, performance and sight-reading ability.
The contest was a concert style event and bands performed their music but did not participate in any marching events. "It's not a regular competition," Taylor said. "You go and you're judged individually." According to Taylor, the bands were each given individual ratings in the categories and were not awarded places such as first or second. "You're not up against another band," she said.
For their performance, the EHS band played "Lord, Guard and Guide" and "Legend of the Sword."
High school bands and orchestras from across the Northeast Tennessee region performed in the event.
