Lady Warriors blank North
from staff reports
KINGSPORT -- With pitcher Kortney Goulds whizzing
through the Sullivan North lineup, the Lady Warriors of Happy
Valley captured a 2-0 Watauga Conference victory on Thursday
afternoon.
Going the distance, Goulds struck out 12 batters
and allowed just three hits to help Happy Valley improve to
3-1 in the conference and 5-1 overall.
There wasn't a great deal of hitting on either
side, as the game was played with a lower-compression ball.
The Lady Warriors mustered six hits, with Mandy
Byrd, Alicia Dick, Jessie Blevins, Goulds, Jeanie Hawkins
and Terra Whaley collecting one apiece.
Happy Valley tallied both of its runs in the
fifth. Hawkins and Whaley singled and advanced on a passed
ball before Hawkins came home on a Kate Powell RBI. Another
passed ball enabled Whaley to cross the plate with the second
run.
Neither squad committed an error, making for
a quick contest.
Happy Valley returns home on Monday to host Unicoi
County in a huge Watauga encounter.
