Junior Rangers deny Vance Middle

from staff reports

Unaka's Junior Rangers christened Holsclaw Field on Thursday with a doubleheader sweep of Vance Middle School.
Coach Matt Wilson's Unaka club won the first game in 9-7 fashion, then eked out a 6-5 victory in the finale.
In the opener, the Rangers fell behind early as Vance plated four in the first and two more in the second.
Dustin Carden capped off a Unaka comeback as his three-run inside the park homer put the Rangers up for good.
Michael Carpenter (six strikeouts in three innings) struck out five of the last six batters he faced for the win. Carpenter, Andrew Church and Carden had two hits apiece for Unaka, which got one hit each from Adam Colbaugh and Terry Campbell.
Game 2 saw the Rangers scored six runs in the first and hold on for the victory in a shortened contest due to darkness.
Colbaugh and Jake Oliver each collected a hit for Unaka. Nick Papantoniou was the triumphant pitcher, and Campbell picked up the save.
