Jr. Rangers, 'Horns split pair

from staff reports

Hunter Taylor gave up two hits and went the distance on the mound Tuesday, leading Unaka's Jr. Rangers to a 7-0 shutout of Johnson County in the opening game of a middle school baseball doubleheader.
Unaka ran to an early lead and never looked back. Dustin Carden, Michael Carpenter and Andrew Church each collected a hit for the Rangers.
Johnson County (1-1) did bounce back in the second contest to seize a 4-3 victory.
Unaka plated three runs in the first on Aaron Taylor's two-run single, and held on to a one-run lead until the Longhorns rallied in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead.
The Rangers (2-3) threatened in their last at bat as Jeff Wilson stole his way to third but the Longhorn hurler struck out the final two batters.
