Alabama beats UT

   TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Things weren't all bad for the Alabama Crimson Tide athletic programs this weekend.
   One day before the Crimson Tide fell in the NCAA Basketball Tournament to Kent State, Alabama's baseball team defeated Tennessee 7-3 Friday in the Southeastern Conference opener for both teams at Sewel-Thomas Stadium.
   The Crimson Tide scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, aided by three walks, a balk, a throwing error and a wild pitch. The four-run inning snapped a 3-3 tie, and extended Alabama's win streak to six-straight games.
   Walter Sevilla had two hits to top Tennessee. Peter Stonard went 3-of-5 to lead the Crimson Tide.

   The Crimson Tide's good fortunes continued on Saturday, as Alabama blasted the Vols.
   The Crimson Tide scored in six of the eight innings, and tallied at least one run off all four UT pitchers.
   Alabama scored eight runs in the first three innings to take an 8-1 lead.
   Sevilla had two hits to top Tennessee. Brent Boyd and Beau Hearod each tallied three hits for Alabama.
   The series concludes today at 2 p.m. in Tuscaloosa.
