Buffs split opening double header

BREVARD, NC -- The Milligan Buffaloes opened
the 2004 Appalachian Athletic Conference baseball season with
a doubleheader split against rival Brevard on Saturday.
Milligan won the first game 6-5 and lost the
second game 8-2.
In the first game, freshman Stephen Jarrett,
coming from the bullpen earned the victory as the Buffs battled
back from a 5-3 deficit. Leading hitters in the first game
were sophomore center fielder Will Little, who was 3-4, and
junior third baseman Dustin Price, who was 2-4 with two homers
and four ribbies.
In game two, junior Jacob McAllister received
the loss. The leading hitter was Price, 1-3 with both ribbies.
Milligan lost the final game of the three-game
series to Brevard Sunday afternoon by the score of 4-1.
Senior Chad Davis received the loss for Milligan.
Leading hitters for the Buffs were freshman Thomas Lister
as he was 1-4, junior catcher Nathan Chandler, who was 1-4
with a run scored, and senior shortstop Brad Hitch, 1-3 with
a double and a walk.
Next for the Buffs will be a three game series
next weekend at Virginia Intermont. Saturday's nine inning
game will start at 2 p.m. at Avoca Field, while Sunday's double
header will start at 1 p.m at DeVault Stadium.
