Buffs open home season with sweep
of OVC

The Milligan College Buffaloes opened their 2004
home season Saturday with a 14-3 and 11-1 sweep over Ohio
Valley College.
This moves Milligan to 3-2 in the season while
Ohio Valley starts 2004 at 0-2.
In the first game, Ohio Valley jumped out to
a 1-0 lead on a Derek Sidwell home run in the first inning.
Milligan would score two runs in the bottom of
the first inning with an Adam Dobson wild pitch to score junior
second baseman Nathan Meade, and junior third baseman Dustin
Price scored on a sophomore right fielder David Rusaw ground
out.
In the top of the third inning, Ohio Valley tied
the game on a Sidwell single scoring Josh Hudkins.
Milligan would answer in the bottom half of the
inning with three runs, starting with a Price sacrifice fly
to score sophomore center fielder Will Little, followed by
a Thomas Lister hit to score Meade. The Buffaloes scored the
third run with a Brian Miller single, scoring Rusaw.
The Buffaloes would put the game away in the
bottom of the fourth as Meade, with a bases loaded hit, scored
Brad Hitch.
Price hit a long fly ball to center field to
see the center fielder drop it as Jacob McAllister and Little
scored. Lister then came through again, with a two-run double.
The bases would be loaded again when junior catcher
Nathan Chandler cleared the bases on a base hit and error
by the right fielder. Ohio Valley then turned to Brandon Durben
to pitch them out of the inning, but McAllister had an RBI
on a sacrifice fly to score Chandler.
Ohio Valley scored a run in the top of the fifth
with a RBI single from Drew Cecil.
In game one, senior Todd Speas picked up the
victory, pitching five innings with three hits and three runs.
Dobson picked up the loss for Ohio Valley, going three innings
giving up six runs.
Little scored two runs, Meade was 3-for-3 and
scored three runs, and Rusaw was 1-for-2 with a walk, also
scoring two runs. For the Scots, Hudkins was 2-for-2, scoring
two runs, and Sidwell was 2-for-2 with a home run.
In game two, Milligan jumped to a three-run lead
in the bottom of the first on a Price two-out, solo home run
and a two-run single from freshman left fielder Kory Kinnear.
Ohio Valley cut the lead down to two, with a
Josh Wakeman RBI single in the fourth inning.
In the bottom of the fourth, Milligan pushed
the lead back out to four runs with a Price RBI triple to
score Meade, and a Lister RBI double to score Price.
Milligan would keep going adding two runs in
the fifth inning behind a Hitch two-run home run for a 7-1
lead after five innings.
The sixth inning would see Rusaw score Lister
and Meade with a single, and a Miller two-run home run for
the 11-1 victory.
McAllister picked up the win, going six innings
and allowing one run on five hits while Adam Copeland picked
the loss up for Ohio Valley College, going five innings and
giving up seven runs on nine hits.
Price was 3-for-4 in game two with a home run,
triple and scoring two runs. Miller was 1-for-2 with a two-run
home run and two walks while Rusaw was 2-for-4 with two RBIs
and scoring two runs.
The next game for Milligan will be today, concluding
the three-game series with Ohio Valley College, starting at
2 p.m.
