Union trips Lady Buffs

Trying to take a bite out of the Lady Bulldogs
proved to be too much for the Milligan College Lady Buffaloes
Saturday night at Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
Union rode the offensive explosion of 6-1 center
Chasity Nunn, who burned the Buffs for 25 points to take a
73-67 win in a key AAC conference win.
The Lady Buffaloes tired to erase a double-digit
lead in the last two minutes of the contest, but came up short
against the Lady Bulldogs.
Milligan battled in the first half behind the
offensive play of Joy Clark, but Union used the play of Nunn
and Kristie Miller to maintain the early lead.
The Buffaloes took a slim three-point advantage
late in the first half behind the stellar play of Kari Stout,
Ginny White and Ann Marie Gardner, but Union refused to roll
over.
A 10-0 run keyed by Andrea Whitehead, Dawn Anderson
and Nun gave the 'Dogs a 37-28 halftime advantage. The Bulldogs
shot a torrid 53 percent in the first half from the field.
Milligan tried to battle back in the second half,
with Clark nailing a deuce along with a trey from Gardner.
Meanwhile, Union used free throws to its advantage in the
second half, hitting 16-of-22 on the evening.
Trailing 71-61 in the closing minute, the Buffaloes
refused to fold as Kaci Letterman tried to bring the Buffs
back with a downtown three followed by the old-fashioned three-point
play to cut the lead to six.
Milligan missed a trey with :08 remaining and
Union ran out the clock for the win.
Clark was the only Milligan player in double
figures with 15 while Stout and Letterman added nine to the
cause. Gardner added two treys for eight, while Lacy York
chipped in with eight points and six rebounds.
Miller with 15, Davidson 12, and Whitehead with
11 gave Union four players in double figures.
