Owens nets 30 in Lady Longhorn win

   MOUNTAIN CITY--Turbocharged by a 30-point performance from Elena Owens, the Johnson County Lady Longhorns picked up their first Watauga Conference win on Friday night, beating Sullivan North 61-54.
   Johnson County (1-11, 3-19) raced out to a 17-2 first-quarter lead, and Owens knocked down four 3-pointer in the stanza.
   The Lady Longhorn lead ballooned to as many as 25 points -- 46-21 in second half -- before North (3-8, 9-15) rallied back to pull within in.
   Johnson County, however, had enough to hold off the Lady Golden Raiders in the end. April McCloud contributed a total of 12 points for the winners, while North received 19 points from Amanda Frazier.

   Justin Genaille and Judd Shoun pumped in 18 points apiece for the Longhorns, but Johnson County fell just a little short against the Raiders.
   Down 23-7 in the second quarter, the Longhorns (1-11, 6-21) fought back to take a slim lead before the halftime break.
   Up 35-31 at the half, North (5-7, 11-11) was able to extend its lead in the second half. When Johnson County got within three points (59-56) late in the contest, the Raiders answered by making clutch free throws and holding on for the win.
   Contributing 11 points to the Longhorn cause was Chris McCloud.
   C.J. Hackler and Dammion Thomas each totaled 20 points for North, with Hackler nailing five 3-pointers.
