Senior wing Lance Ashby scored a career-high
and school-record 52 points in leading the Milligan College
Buffaloes to a 105-67 rout of UVA-Wise.
Ashby connected on 17-of-27 from the floor and
hit 9-of-14 from three-point land in his scoring binge. He
broke the old record of 49 points held by Tonnie Cash (1967)
against Wofford and his own last year.
Michael Morrell chipped in with 20 points on
seven-of-12 from the floor, which included three-of-six from
distance as the Buffs cruised to an easy win.
The Buffs outrebounded the Cavaliers by a 51-34
margin led by the efforts of Derek Dyer who hauled down 15
boards. The Buffs led 51-28 at the break with the Buffs holding
the Cavs to eight-of-32 shooting (25 percent) in the opening
half.
Stacy Ervin paced the Cavs with 21 points and
teammate Zack Moore added 16 to the UVA-Wise effort.
Baseball
The Buffs pounded out 15 hits in a 13-4 victory
over Mars Hill, with Jeremy 'Bam' Christian leading the way
with a three-for-five day. Christian belted a home run and
drove in four to help pitcher Matt Simmons to his first win
of the young season.
Chris Archer was three-for-five with three RBI
in the contest.
Milligan scored a pair of runs in the last of
the first and added three more in the third to open a five
run lead.
Simmons went five and one-third frames giving
up four runs (all earned) on five hits, while striking out
three and walking one. Todd Speas pitched three and two-thirds
innings to pick up his first save of the season.
Scott Shealy finished two-for-three with four
runs scored in the Buffs leadoff spot.
