'Horns deny North

   The one-two punch of Tommy Short and Matt Cornett proved too much for Sullivan North as Johnson County beat the Golden Raiders 63-56 Friday Night at Ray Shoun Gym.
   Short paced the Longhorns with 19 points and cohort Cornett added 17 in the victory. Chad Reece also had a double-digit effort with 11 points for Johnson County, who improved to 5-8 in the Watauga Conference and 9-16 overall.
   The win moved them one-half game ahead of North in the league standings, as the Raiders now stand at 5-9 in the conference and 10-14 overall.
   Johnson County gave the Golden Raiders little chance to contend jumping out to a 20-6 lead after only one quarter of play. The 'Horns maintained a 33-22 lead at the half and when into the final quarter leading by the score of 42-28.
   Phillip Scarsellone led the North brigade with 19 points, while Josh Arnold added 13.
   Other high scorers in the game for the Raiders were Matt Edens with 7 points, Lance Carter with 7 and Michael Buchanan with six.
   Countering for Johnson County was Michael Lipford with nine points, Judd Shoun with 4 and Matt Eggers with 3.
   The Longhorns return to action Tuesday night when they host the Cloudland Highlanders.
