Buffs stymied by Wesleyan

   The Milligan men's basketball team traveled to Athens on Thursday night and weren't treated kindly by host Tennessee Wesleyan, as the Buffs were dealt a 79-63 defeat.
   Milligan outscored Wesleyan in the second half, but a sluggish start in the first half resulted in a 17-point deficit at intermission as the Buffs found themselves trailing 39-22 after the first 20:00.
   Former EHS standout Michael Morrell paced the Buffs with 15 points, including three treys. Lance Ashby connected for 13, while Craig Emmert contributed 10 for the Buffs on the evening.
   Wesleyan had four players reach double digits paced by 16 points from Jackie Garvin. J.B. Watkins netted 13 points and Wesleyan received 10 points each from Mike Brock and Miroslav Holan.
   Milligan shot 40 percent from the field for the game, while Wesleyan shot a little better clip at 49 percent. Both teams collected 30 boards each on the evening.

The Lady Buffs ran into a buzzsaw in the form of Wesleyan, which laid a 33-point spanking on Rich Aubrey's squad.
   Milligan could only score 16 first-half points on a dismal 26 percent from the floor. Meanwhile, Wesleyan put 33 points on their side of the column to take the 17 point halftime advantage.
   Happy Valley grad Lacy York paced the Lady Buffs with six. Joy Clark picked up five points on the night, while Miranda Greene, Nicky Jessen, and Amanda Hammons tallied four each for Milligan.
   Niki Dixon had a game-high 12 points to pace four Wesleyan players in double figures. Nancy Scott, Beth Bryant, and Hailey Stiles contributed 10 each to the winners column.
   Wesleyan attacked the glass hard and out-rebounded the Lady Buffs 36-23. Jessen and Amanda Greene pulled down seven boards each for Milligan.
