Union squeaks past Lady Buffs

BARBOURVILLE, KY -- Union College held on to defeat Milligan College 61-60 on Tuesday, stretching its winning streak to a season-high four games.
Union led 39-30 early in the second half, but the Lady Buffaloes (4-15 overall; 3-8 AAC) rallied and tied the score at 46 when Elizabeth Henter nailed a 3-pointer with 6:56 to play. The Lady Bulldogs rebounded and opened up a 57-51 lead following a Kristie Miller bucket with 3:51 remaining.
Milligan, though, wouldn't go away and trailed 61-60 after junior forward Lacy York scored with 21 seconds left. The Lady Buffs fouled Miller, but she missed the front end of the bonus with 19 seconds to go. Milligan couldn't convert as they turned the ball over with nine seconds remaining.
Chasity Nunn was then fouled and sent to the line with six seconds to play, but she missed the foul shot. Milligan sophomore guard Kari Stout launched a 3-pointer at the buzzer, but it bounced off the front of the rim, giving Union the one-point Appalachian Athletic Conference win.
Miller paced Union (12-9 overall, 8-5 AAC) with 18 points, while Nunn posted a double-double with 11 points and a career-high 12 rebounds.
For Milligan, Stout led the way with scoring 13 points and freshman forward Candace Shelton added 10 points.
Milligan will host Montreat (N.C.) College Thursday evening in an AAC contest. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
