Comets rocket past Range
from staff reports
Central head coach Lamont Barnett credited the
defense with jump-starting his Comets toward their 66-37 rout
of the Rebels of Range Thursday night at Range.
"When on the road you have to rely on your defense
to set the tone, because you can never be certain, going in,
just how well your guys will shoot on any given night," stated
Barnett.
Well they shot pretty well, hanging 66 points
on their hosts' scoreboard, 41 of those in the first half.
"Jared (Cline) and Caleb (Johnson) were on their
game tonight," Barnett continued, alluding to the 39 points
-- 20 for Cline, 19 for Johnson -- his two leading scorers
had just contributed to the Comets' offensive cause.
Michael Stone scored 11 points, while Matthew
Oaks added 10 for the Rebels.
But the Central defense was to much for Range
to overcome. The Rebels managed only six points in the first
quarter, and only equaled their first period output in the
second to head into halftime 25 points short of the Comets
41.
"We were able to play everybody;" said Barnett.
"We want to be as fresh as possible heading into the tournament
this weekend."
The Carter, Johnson County Elementary Disrict
Tournament begins at 5 p.m. at Unaka High School this Saturday,
January 21st.
