Third quarter catapults Lady Comets over Unaka from staff reportsA 9-0 third quarter proved to be a difference maker in Tuesday's Unaka at Central girls basketball game, enabling the Lady Comets to overcome a six-point halftime deficit and register a 35-30 home win. Billie Jean Campbell tallied a team-high 10 points for Central, which got nine points from Whitney Murray and eight from Emily Bradley. The Lady Rangers' Dana Williams was the game-high scorer, netting 11, and teammate Kayla Grindstaff added eight. Unaka was dealt a major setback in the game when Kayleigh Elsea (5 points), who is regularly a high scorer, suffered a broken arm and is probably out the rest of the season. The junior varsity contest saw the Lady Comets ride a big 18-point effort from Emily Bradley for a 30-13 triumph. Haley Sisk added five points for Central. Brittany Hughes paced Unaka with six, with Misty Shaffer chipping in three. | |||||||
