Happy Valley stopped by Central

   BLOUNTVILLE--After trailing at halftime 26-24, the Sullivan Central Cougars rode a strong offensive third quarter behind the three-point shooting of Joe Brown to down Happy Valley 55-45 Tuesday night at the Cougar Cage.
   The Warriors jumped out to a 15-13 lead behind eight first-quarter points from Andrew Bowman.
   Brown tossed in two treys and Tyler Harvey added another, giving the Cougars a 41-34 lead at the end of three.
   The Warriors tried to mount a comeback behind 10 second-half points from Tim Whaley but came up short. Central's 49-37 lead in the fourth quarter would be too much for the Warriors to overcome.
   The Cougars hit 10-10 free-throws on the evening to seal the deal.
   Whaley led all scorers with 15, followed by Bowman with 10. Brown topped the Cougars with 13.
   Happy Valley travels to Erwin Friday night to battle the Unicoi County Blue Devils in a Watauga Conference matchup.

   The Lady Warriors put up a valiant effort but fell short to the Central Lady Cougars Tuesday night.
   Audrey Thomas gave the Cougars the lead with 20 seconds remaining in the game on a nice drive to the basket.
   The Warriors worked the ball inside to Brandi Dugger who jumper was followed by an inadvertent whistle. Play stopped but the official made no motion to follow up his call as time ran out and the Cougars escaped with a narrow win.
   After a brief meeting between the three officials they declared the game over.
   Kelia Williams paced the Warrior attack with 13.
   Free throw shooting proved to be the difference in the game as the Warriors made a dismal 9-of-19 on the evening.
