T.A. Dugger boys top Vikes, 23-18

from staff reports

BRISTOL -- A good dose of hard work went a long way for the T.A. Dugger Junior High basketball team on Monday evening.
Holding Vance to just seven points over the first three quarters, the Junior Cyclones went on to post a 23-18 victory in conference play.
"The defense held Vance to 18 points, and we did a great job of rebounding," said T.A. Dugger coach James Jacobs. "It was just a fantastic effort after being off two weeks over the Christmas break."
The win was T.A. Dugger's second over the Junior Vikings this season.
Austin Taylor led the way for the Junior Cyclones with eight points, followed by Josh Guinn with six.
T.A. Dugger, which led 11-5 at the half and 16-7 after three quarters, upped its record to 7-2 on the season.
Monday's seventh-grade action saw T.A. Dugger lose a tight-fisted contest to the Baby Vikings, 34-32.
The Junior Cyclones were up 15-9 at intermission, but Vance put together a big third quarter to take a 24-22 advantage heading into the final stanza.
Jake Peters was the high man for TAD, tossing in 10 points. Ryan Green added nine, with Wendell Loving scoring seven.
The Junior Cyclones travel to Church Hill for games at 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. today, then host Sevier -- at 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. -- in a key league matchup this Thursday.
