The Elizabethon junior varsity squads roped the
Longhorns of Johnson County on Tuesday at Treadway Gym to
take two impressive victories.
In girls action, Valnessha Redd pumped in 21
points and Sarah Smith contributed 12 as the Lady Cyclones
shot down the Lady 'Horns 51-34. The Lady Cyclones built a
26-12 half-time advantage and never looked back in taking
the win.
Valerie Kauffeld continued her hot hand netting
seven, while Allison Cook added six. Nikki Crowe and Brandi
Forbes closed out the scoring for the Lady Cyclones with three
and two points respectively.
Shanna Phipps paced the Lady 'Horns with 11.
Brittany Cole collected 9 points and Elene Owens garnered
seven for the Lady 'Horns effort.
In boys action, the 'Horns were able to keep
it close after one period at 14-12, but that would be the
last time they even came close to the Cyclones as EHS had
11 players score at least one bucket in a 61-38 victory. Chris
Vaughn registered 15 points and Jordan Bray knocked down 14
to pave the way for the Cyclones.
Adam Turley contributed 6, while Michael Porter,
Derek Wilson, Jeremy Robinson, Brad Brown, and Jonathan Laing
all collected four each. Phillip Garland, Nathan Coffman,
and J.R. McFarland were the other Cyclones to score, as each
player recorded a bucket.
Frank Icenhour led the way for the 'Horns with
9 points on some tough inside scoring. Chris McCloud, Zak
Trivette, Mitch Harper, and Kyle Waters added six each for
Johnson County.
