The Warriors of Happy Valley didn't
get enough of their war dance in before taking the court at
Treadway Gym in junior varsity action against the Elizabethton
Cyclones on Friday afternoon.
That was OK anyway because they finished it on
the hardwood by taking two big wins back to Warrior Hill by
identical 46-37 scores.
In boys junior varsity action, Andrew Bowman
and Bobby Morton scored 11 points each to carry the Warriors'
victory over the Cyclones. Stephen Williams contributed seven
points, while Ryan Toney added six.
Ten Cyclones dented the scoring column, with
Jonathan Laing showing the way with seven points. Phillip
Garland and Brandon Blevins pitched in with five each.
Michael Porter, Nathan Coffman, and Bradley Brown
would pick up four more apiece for the Cyclones, while Jeremy
Robinson would drain a big trey.
Meanwhile, Cody Whitlock and Jordy Harrison were
pushing the Cyclones farther into the hole, tallying four
each for the Warriors.
The Warriors led 24-13 at intermission, and blew
the game wide open in the third, outscoring the Cyclones 14-8
to extend the lead to 34-21 at the end of the third period.
In girls junior varsity action, the Lady Warriors
proved to be to much for the home-standing Lady Cyclones.
Whitney Crowe paced the victorious Warriors with 9 points.
Mandy Byrd followed close behind Crowe with eight
points, while teammates Jennifer Osborn and Crissy Shell netted
six each for the Lady Warriors.
Valerie Kauffeld led the Lady Cyclones on the
night, scoring 13 points. Sarah Smith added 9 to the Cyclones
tally, while Jordan Crowe netted 6.
The Lady Warriors led at the half 25-19. Both
teams struggles offensively in the third as the Lady Warriors
scored only five, and the Lady Cyclones collected 9.
Entering the fourth quarter trailing by only
two, the Cyclones had a last gasp, but the Lady Warriors outscored
EHS 16-9 in the final period to take the win.
