Comets turn away Tigers

Getting 10 points apiece from Chris Rutledge
and Sammy Maricle, the Central Comets polished off a 36-29
victory over the Keenburg Tigers on Monday.
The Comets built a 24-16 halftime lead, then
held their own the rest of the way to collect the win. Justin
Jaynes added a nine-point showing for the Central club.
Opie Lambert had 14 points to pace the Tigers
of Keenburg.
In girls action, a 14-point performance by Cassie
Osborne catapulted the Lady Comets to a resounding 37-15 triumph.
Central, which shut out Keenburg 11-0 in the
opening stanza, picked up a half-dozen points from Tia Hughes.
The Lady Tigers were topped by Trivette with eight points.
In a junior varsity contest, Matt Moore totaled
11 points in lifting the Baby Comets to a 25-18 decision over
the Tigers.
Josh Moore and Nick Sanders chipped in six points
apiece for the winning club, which scored just one point in
the first quarter but got things rolling in the second. Chris
Marley had seven for Keenburg.
Central also captured the JV girls tilt, 34-10,
riding a 16-point effort off the shooting hand of Courtney
Byers. Ketta Metcalf contributed eight points for the Lady
Comets, who led allowed just two points during the first half
of play.
Wright led the Lady Tigers with six points.
