The Cloudland Lady Highlanders entered Friday night's game with Daniel Boone as an unhealthy team, as many players experienced sickness throughout the past week.
However, they showed up and the Daniel Boone three-point game proved to be the real deal as nine three-pointers helped the Lady Trailblazers top the Lady Highlanders 76-47 at Blazer Gym.
"We're a steady three-point team," said Boone coach Tim Campbell. "We have only one person with a good percentage. When it's going it's great, when it's not it's awful.
"Matt's got a good bounce, we look to see them going far down the road. We think the world of them, we just got hot, and they didn't. We are doing well right now in conference play, we'd like to have that bye in the tourney."
The first half was a very tight ballgame, as both teams experienced trouble shooting the ball, and neither got it going on defense. Nikki Webb paved the way for Cloudland on both sides, as Ashley Barnett and Jamie Massengill topped things off for Boone. It was a close 10-8 after the first quarter.
The second quarter was more of a three point showcase for Boone, as they nailed them down left and right stalling the Cloudland defense. But Cloudland came back within two points twice, however Boone took a 27-21 lead at the end of the half.
The second half was a poor showing for the Cloudland ladies, as they ran out of stamina early allowing the Lady Blazers to capitalize with their healthy team, as they outscored Cloudland 22-9 in the third quickly putting the game away, eventually winning it 76-47.
Outstanding perimeter shooting proved to be the key for Boone, as Kacie Letterman and Brittani Head helped the team get on the board all game. Taukia Hughes, Amy Storie, and Tara Hanson added respectable games for the Lady Landers.
"They are an awesome team," said Cloudland coach Matt Birchfield, "It's good for us to play them. Tim does a good job over here. We just came in and made some crucial turnovers and didn't shoot well. But we go back to work and get healthy."
Cloudland had 14 turnovers in the game, with 9 coming in the second half. They shot 15 of 52 in the game, missing several easy shots which told the tape of the Cloudland team.
Kacie Letterman led Boone with 17 points in the game, Brittani Head and Haylee Collins powered in 15 and 10, respectively. Amy Storie had 10 for the Lady 'Landers.
