Montreat trips Milligan

   MONTREAT N.C. -- Lance Ashby was an ace Thursday night, but a Milligan win wasn't in the cards.
   Ashby scored 28 points for the Buffaloes. However, that wouldn't be enough as the Montreat Cavaliers defeated Milligan 83-74.
   Ashby hit four 3-pointers and grabbed seven rebounds, while A.J. Hamler added 21 for the Buffaloes, who dropped to 4-4 in the AAC and 8-8 overall.
   Milligan visits Bluefield on Saturday.

   Montreat led 28-21 at halftime, and finished the game on an 18-3 run to tuck away a conference win.
   Nicky Jessen topped Milligan with 15, while Carla Brannock, Julie Buchanan and Jennifer Brooks all had 16 for the Lady Cavaliers.
   Several local players shined in this game, including Montreat's Amanda Duncan. The former Happy Valley standout scored eight points.
   Miranda Greene had nine rebounds for Milligan (4-4, 6-11).
