Cyclones take top honors at Virginia High swim meet

   BRISTOL, VA -- Elizabethton's boys showed they were a program on the rise with a victory Saturday in a five-team swim meet held at Virginia High school.
   The Cyclones edged the home school 91 to 87 in the final standings with Sullivan Central close behind at 86 points. Two Virginia schools Lebanon with 14 points and J.J. Kelly with 13 rounded out the competition.
   There were numerous wins for the Cyclone swimmers with Jeremy Lindauer showing the pace. Lindauer won the 200 freestyle over teammate Blake Dugger and won the 100 freestyle five seconds over his nearest competitor.
   Charlie Crowe also had two individual wins taking the 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke. Another EHS win was recorded by the 200 freestyle relay team of Ross Chun, Craig Shaw, Lindauer and his younger brother Evan.
   They closed the meet out in style taking the 400 freestyle relay. Dugger, Shaw, Crowe and Jeremy Lindauer won the final event by 17 seconds over second place Central.
   On the girls side, the Lady Cyclones placed fourth behind the home team Lady Bearcats, J.J. Kelly and Sullivan Central. They did finish ahead of Lebanon.
   Among the scorers for EHS, Lindsay Norris had a fourth place in the 200 individual medley. Crystal Contino was fifth in the 50 freestyle and also placed in the 100 backstroke with a fourth.
   The best individual event for the Lady Cyclones proved to be the 500 freestyle, where Rachel Ruston had four points with her third place showing and Wendy Boone finished right behind in fourth. Ruston and Boone had another close finish in the 200 freestyle finishing, fourth and fifth respectively.
   EHS is tentatively scheduled to face Sullivan East at home on Tuesday night in their next contest.
