Plane crash


* Two people were killed around 5:13 p.m. Sunday when a small aircraft crashed in the middle of a field on Quail Private Drive off Beulah Church Road in Kingsport, according to Sullivan County Sheriff's Office. Deputies said Cecil W. Doran told them he heard a loud noise and went to the field. After approaching the aircraft, two bodies were found. They were identified as Samuel Preston Swett, 59, 842 Sugar Hollow Road, Butler, and Jeff Byrd, 39, 701 Rock Springs Road, Kingsport. Swett also was the owner of the plane. Both men were dead on arrival and their bodies were sent to Wellmont Holston Valley Emergency Room. Byrd reportedly was giving flying lessons to Swett after leaving Tri-Cities Regional Airport. The incident was turned over to the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.

Arrests


* Christopher A. Honeycutt, 148 Big Sandy Drive, and Sherly D. Ervin, 404 E. Fairview Ave., Johnson City, were arrested Sunday by officers of Johnson City Police Bureau after they were called to investigate a possible shoplifting at Home Depot, 3207 Peoples St. Upon investigation, it was found that an employee of Home Depot had been accepting cash payments from a customer and allowing him to leave with merchandise without paying. Honeycutt was charged with theft over $1,000 and Ervin was charged with embezzlement over $1,000. Both were being held in Washington County Detention Center under $10,000 bond.
* Donna J. Stanish, 24, was arrested Saturday by officers of Johnson City Police Bureau following a shoplifting incident at Wal-Mart, 3111 Browns Mill Road. Stanish was detained by store loss prevention personnel after allegedly attempting to leave the premises without paying for merchandise valued at $532. Stanish was charged with shoplifting over $500 and was being held in Washington County Detention Center on $1,000 bond.
* Jeffery Lynn Boggs, 33, 2205 Nave Drive, Johnson City, was arrested Saturday by officers of Johnson City Police Bureau and charged with attempted strong-arm robbery. The arrest stemmed from an incident at Wal-Mart, 3111 Browns Mill Road, during which Boggs allegedly attempted to take a purse from a female in the parking lot. Boggs was being held in Washington County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
