* Carter County Sheriff's Department Deputy Eric
Buck responded Tuesday to 271 Anderson Road, Johnson City,
regarding a male subject in his late 40s or early 50s who
had tried to pick up a 10-year-old girl three times. The man
was described as having a beard and mustache and possibly
was driving an older model gray or primer Ford 4x4. According
to a witness, the incident occurs every day at 2:30 p.m. The
witness said a suspicious beat-up black truck with two male
occupants also had been seen in the neighborhood. The witness
also told the officer that the 10-year-old said the older
male offered her candy if she would get into the truck.
* Richard Allen Stout, 24, 251 Browns Branch
Road, Hampton, was arrested Tuesday by Elizabethton Police
Department Ptl. Richard Haney and charged with driving on
revoked license. Ptl. Haney asked Stout whether there was
any contraband in the vehicle. Stout gave him permission to
search. Two syringes were found in the passenger side door.
He additionally was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
* Mary Jo Hopkins, 42, 1294 Bluefield Ave., was
arrested Tuesday by EPD Capt. Rusty Verran following a traffic
stop. According to the report, Investigator Dennis Higgins
of District Attorney General Joe Crumley's office was traveling
on West Elk Avenue when he noticed the driver of a red Ford
Escort who appeared to be driving erratically. Higgins said
that as the vehicle pulled into the Citgo parking lot, it
struck a gray 1985 Oldsmobile. Capt. Verran responded to the
scene and administered a series of field sobriety tasks. She
was charged with DUI.
* Sherry E. Harmon, 46, 122 Lewis Blevins Road,
was arrested Tuesday by EPD Ptl. Brooke Mullins after a traffic
stop. Following a series of field sobriety tasks, which she
performed poorly, according to the report, she was charged
* William Edward Johnson, 35, 175 Buck Mountain
Road, Roan Mountain, was arrested Tuesday by Carter County
Sheriff's Department Deputy Johnny Miller on a warrant charging
him with violation of probation on assault and public intoxication.
* Arthur Eugene Sanders, 24, 2604 Austin Village,
Johnson City, was arrested Tuesday by CCSD Deputy Kenny Cornett
at the Unicoi/Carter County line on a warrant out of General
Sessions Court charging him with failure to appear on assault.
Sanders also was wanted on an attachment out of Juvenile Court.
* Sam Henry Oliver, 51, 171 Bear Branch Road,
Roan Mountain, reported Tuesday to CCSD Deputy Brad Hamm that
he entered the APPCO store on U.S. Highway 19E in Roan Mountain,
leaving the keys in the vehicle. When he returned, the blue
2000 Chevrolet S-10 pickup was gone. Oliver said he was away
from the vehicle 10 to 15 minutes. Oliver had a black toolbox
in the bed of the truck and his checkbook was inside the vehicle.
* EPD Ptl. Jason McCall responded Tuesday to
1000 W. G St., the office of Dr. Robert L. Schubert, in regard
to a burglary. Schubert told the officer that he had found
a broken window at his office. The window, located on the
back side of the building, had been shattered with a rock
which was found in the office. Detective Matt Bowers and Detective
Ed McGee responded to the scene. Entry did not appear to have
been through the window. A sliding glass door on the east
side of the building had been pried open, however, nothing
appeared missing at the time of the report.
