Arrests
* Jose Manuel Alvarez, 20, 713 Jason Place, Lenoir,
N.C., was arrested Wednesday by Carter County Sheriff's Department
Deputy Todd Hamm following a traffic stop. Alvarez was charged
with second-offense DUI, driving on suspended license and
criminal impersonation. A passenger, William Clint Johnson,
37, same address, was charged with public intoxication.
* Gary John Shirley, 2398 Lakewood Drive, Johnson
City, was arrested Wednesday by CCSD Deputy Dean Jones on
a warrant charging him with violation of probation.
* Wesley James Porter, 19, Mayfield Drive, Johnson
City, was arrested Wednesday by CCSD Lt. Rocky Croy and charged
in a warrant with sale of Schedule II and conspiracy to sell
Schedule II.
* Jeffrey Ray Miller, 36, 184 Spring Drive, was
arrested Wednesday by Constable David Jones and charged with
violation of probation.
* Anthony Charles Godsey, 36, 157 Wade Bulla
Hollow, Watauga, was arrested Wednesday by CCSD Deputy Todd
Hamm and charged with violation of probation.
* Beovie J. Baber, 23, 1263 Bluefield Ave., Apt.
C5, was arrested Wednesday by Elizabethton Police Department
Ptl. Michael Merritt following a traffic stop. Baber was charged
with driving on suspended license, violation of registration,
and violation of financial responsibility. He also was served
a capias charging him with failure to appear on driving on
suspended.
* Jerry R. Oaks, 19, 920 S. Second St., was arrested
Thursday by EPD Ptl. Jack Ramsey and charged with violation
of probation.
* Violet Jill Nave, 36, 401 Peach Tree Lane,
was arrested Wednesday by EPD Ptl. Jesus Pena on a juvenile
attachment.
Assault
* Officers of Bristol Tennessee Police Department
responded Friday evening to Wellmont Regional Medical Center
in reference to a possible stabbing. Police found that David
Wright, 46, had suffered some stabbing and cutting-type injuries
while in the parking area of the hospital, as well as an injury
to his head, apparently from being struck. Wright was treated
at Wellmont. Two suspects have been identified, according
to Bristol Police: Gary Lipford, 27, and Elmer Dean Lipford
Jr., 29. Warrants were issued for both men, with one later
served on Elmer Lipford. Gary Lipford was still at large Thursday
and police are seeking information as to his whereabouts.
Lipford is described as a white male, about 5 feet, 10 inches
tall, weighing about 140 pounds, with blond hair and blue
eyes. Anyone who knows his whereabouts is asked to contact
the police department's TIPS Line at (423) 764-TIPS.
Deaths
* CCSD Lt. Mike Fraley was dispatched around
4:58 a.m. Wednesday to Banks Apartments, 337 Old Milligan
Hwy., regarding a possible death. Upon arrival, Delores Chandler,
same address, told the officer that her boyfriend was dead.
Chandler escorted the officer to the bedroom where he found
William Lee Greer, 40, lying in bed. Greer appeared to have
been dead several hours. Chandler said the victim was not
on any type of medication nor under a doctor's care. She said
he told her he was feeling bad Tuesday and complained of pain
in his left arm. She said she tried to get him to go to the
emergency room, but he refused because he did not have insurance.
Chandler said Greer went to bed around 10:30 p.m. and she
fell asleep on the couch around midnight. She woke up around
4:55 a.m. and found Greer. The body was transported to Quillen
College of Medicine for autopsy.
* CCSD Sgt. Patrick Johnson was dispatched Wednesday
to 361 Old Buck Mountain Road regarding a deceased subject.
According to the report, the officer found Charles Robert
Vanhoy, 57, lying on the couch and covered with a blanket.
Terry Harrison, a neighbor, told the officer that Vanhoy had
been at his residence until 10 p.m. Tuesday and was supposed
to pick him up earlier Wednesday. When Vanhoy failed to show,
Harrison went to his residence and found him on the couch,
deceased. The body was transported to Quillen College of Medicine
for autopsy.
