Arrests
* Lester Eugene Harmon, 36, P.O. Box 148, Elk
Park, N.C., and Jonathan Edward Huskins, 19, 832 Big Horse
Creek Road, Newland, N.C., were arrested Monday by Elizabethton
Police Department Ptl. Jennifer Mayberry and Ptl. Kevin Cable
after officers responded to a shoplifting call at Wal-Mart.
A juvenile female and the two males were issued citations
for shoplifting. Harmon and Huskins additionally were charged
with public intoxication.
* Michael Eugene Byrd, 20, 142 Simerly Creek
Road, Hampton, was arrested Monday by Carter County Sheriff's
Department Deputy Shannon Deloach and charged with disorderly
conduct.
* Marlin C. Goff, 25, 142 Meadowlark Lane, Bluff
City, and Tanya R. Goff, 27, 361 Ethel Beard Road, Bluff City,
were arrested Sunday by officers of Sullivan County Sheriff's
Office after they responded to Indian Path Hospital Emergency
Room regarding the reported sexual abuse of a 5-year-old female.
Subsequent follow-up investigation led to the arrest of the
Goffs, who both were charged with rape of a child. The investigation
is continuing and more charges are expected, according to
Detective Stanley Hodges.
* A 15-year-old visiting ball player from Knoxville
was issued a juvenile summons Monday for theft under $500
by EPD Ptl. Kevin Cable after the officer responded to a shoplifting
call to Wal-Mart. The boy allegedly took a pack of batteries
valued at $8.97. He was released to the custody of his coach.
* A 17-year-old Mountain City female was issued
a juvenile summons Monday by EPD Ptl. Richard Haney after
the officer responded to Wal-Mart regarding a shoplifter.
The juvenile attempted to take a belly ring valued at $3.97,
according to the report.
Burglary
* EPD Ptl. Jennifer Mayberry responded around
5 a.m. Tuesday to Discount Tobacco Outlet, 1933 W. Elk Ave.,
after officers were dispatched regarding glass breakage and
an alarm. According to the report, the front door had been
smashed and approximately 59 cartons of Marlboro and Camel
cigarettes were taken.
Theft
* Ronnie Dale Garland, 48, 1248 Bluefield Ave.,
reported Monday to EPD Ptl. Richard Haney that someone had
stolen five bottles of medication from a lock box in his apartment.
There was no sign of forced entry.
* Randy Mashburne, 45, 214 Rockhouse Road, Johnson
City, reported Monday to CCSD Sgt. Ken Dugger that someone
had stolen a prescription bottle of medication from the console
of his vehicle.
* Garfield Freeman, of Freeman's Auto in Roan
Mountain, reported Monday to CCSD Deputy Brad Hamm that someone
removed a Ford F100 from the lot sometime between March 2-4.
According to the report, the vehicle had been involved in
a pursuit from Avery County and was located Feb. 18 on Walnut
Mountain Road and towed to Freeman's, where a hold was placed
on it for Avery County Sheriff's Department. Further investigation
is pending.
* James Burrow, 172 Swimming Pool Road, Hampton,
reported Monday to CCSD Lt. Bobby Huffman that someone had
taken about $500 worth of copper wire and a chrome bumper
for a Mazda from the residence.
* Chris Schaffer, 331 E. 4th Ave., Watauga, and
Carey Taylor, 330 E. 4th Ave., Watauga, reported Monday to
CCSD Deputy Janice Mitchell that someone had entered a residence
under construction at 331 E. 4th Ave., and removed a kerosene
heater.
