Arrests
* Bobby Lynn Smith, 35, 500 Eller Road, Mountain
City, was arrested Monday by Carter County Sheriff's Department
Deputy Bradley Johnson on warrants charging him with violation
of probation and aggravated assault.
* Brandy Nicole Yates, 19, 325 North Road, Johnson
City, was arrested Monday by CCSD Sgt. Keith Range after the
officer responded to the residence regarding a disorderly
female. When the officer arrived, he observed Charles Yates
holding his daughter, Brandy, on the ground. According to
the report, she was combative and abusive and Yates said he
had to restrain her because she was vandalizing the vehicles.
She was charged with disorderly conduct under domestic violence.
* Judy Hill, 37, 1146 Berry Drive, was arrested
Monday by Elizabethton Police Department Ptl. Tonya Scott
after the officer responded to the residence regarding a family
argument. Larry Hill told the officer that he and his wife
had been arguing and he had asked her to leave the residence
for the evening but she refused to do so. The officer observed
scratch marks on the neck and ear of Larry Hill. Mrs. Hill
was missing two artificial fingernails which she advised was
due to the scratching incident. She told the officer she scratched
her husband because he pushed her with his body. Mrs. Hill
had no marks or physical evidence of an altercation and was
determined to be the primary aggressor. She was charged with
assault under domestic violence.
* Shannon M. Bass, 24, 919 Pine Ridge Circle,
was arrested Monday by EPD Ptl. Jesus Pena on a warrant charging
her with criminal trespassing.
* Wayne Billy Smith, 36, 228 Garland Branch Road,
was arrested Friday by CCSD Deputy Donald White on a warrant
charging him with violation of probation.
* Cathy Faye Lambert, 38, 185 Nanny Goat Hill,
was arrested Monday by CCSD and charged with custodial interference.
* Joshua Keith Horney, 19, 5349 Hickory Knot
Gap, Newland, N.C., was arrested Tuesday afternoon at the
Roadrunner market in Hampton following an undercover "buy-bust"
by agents of the First Judicial District Drug Task Force.
Horney reportedly sold a baggie containing a white powder
substance believed to be cocaine to a confidential informant.
After further investigation, it was determined the powder
tested negative for cocaine. Horney was charged with sale
of a counterfeit controlled substance and released on an appearance
bond.
Fatality
* Robert Roten, 51, of Mountain City, died Monday
following a 2:18 p.m. accident on Highway 91 in Mountain City.
According to Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Doug Brewer,
a 1987 International truck driven by William Heath of Glade
Springs, Va., was southbound on Highway 91 when his truck
went off the right side of the roadway. Heath lost control
of the truck and overcorrected into the northbound lane, causing
the vehicle to roll on its side and slide into Roten's 1991
Ford. Heath was injured in the accident. Charges are pending
outcome of the investigation.
Theft
* Lucy T. Sims, 64, 1256 Bluefield Ave., reported
Monday to EPD Ptl. Shannon Peters that she was at the laundromat
around 9:30 a.m. and left a bag containing about $2 in change
and 71 Klonopin. When she returned, the bag was gone.
Burglary
* Harvey A. Shaffer, 50, 909 DeJarnette St.,
reported Monday to EPD Ptl. Kevin Cable that he had left his
vehicle for sale on the lot of Lewis Used Cars. Sometime Sunday
evening or Monday morning, someone entered the vehicle and
removed an AM/FM CD player. Entry was made by breaking the
driver's side rear door vent window. The face plate of the
dash was pried out, causing damage.
