Arrests
* James David Brummitt, 27,
133 Horseshoe Drive, Johnson City, was arrested Saturday by
Carter County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Keith Range after
the officer responded to a domestic call. Marla Brummitt,
29, told the officer that she and her husband had gotten into
an argument which escalated into a physical altercation. Mrs.
Brummitt had marks on her left arm and on her chest which,
she told the officer, resulted from her husband pinning her
to the ground and holding her there by placing his knee on
her chest. James Brummitt was charged with assault under domestic
violence.
* Miranda K. Pilk, 24, 910 E. Myrtle Ave., Johnson
City, was arrested Friday by CCSD Sgt. Keith Range on a warrant
charging her with violation of probation.
* Christy Ann Brown, 26, 600 Trudy St., was arrested
Sunday by Elizabethton Police Department Capt. Rusty Verran
on a warrant charging her with violation of probation.
* Andrew J. Miller, 25, 200 Green Hollow Road,
Butler, was issued two summons Sunday by EPD Ptl. Jason McCall
after the officer responded to Wal-Mart regarding a disorderly
shoplifter. According to one of the store managers, Miller
had exhibited suspicious behavior and had been asked to leave
the store. He was escorted to the front, at which time some
plastic wrap from several DVD movies fell from his pants.
He was asked what was under his jacket and when he lifted
up the jacket, the store manager observed three DVD movies
in Miller's pants. The store manager began escorting Miller
to the rear of the store, during which Miller allegedly shoved
the store manager and ran toward the front doors where he
was stopped by store employees and a customer after a short
struggle. Miller was issued summons for shoplifting and assault.
* David Smith, 35, 1761 Gap Creek Road; Michael
Gurney Mayse, 26, 532 Rittertown Road; Mary Ann Davis and
Tracy Brumsey, both of 324 S. Lynn Ave., Apt. 3, were arrested
Saturday by CCSD Sgt. Keith Range after county and city police
officers responded to Sinking Creek Church regarding an assault.
Smith reported to the officer that he and his friend, Mayse,
had been assaulted by Brumsey and Davis, who had left the
scene prior to officers' arrival. Smith and Mayse both had
an odor of alcohol about them. Smith was charged with DUI
and Mayse with public intoxication. Smith was transported
to Sycamore Shoals Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained
in the assault, according to the report. While the subjects
were being transported to jail, deputies observed two subjects,
identified as Brumsey and Davis, walking alongside Elizabethton
Highway. Both were intoxicated and were charged with public
intoxication.
* Norman Hall, 34, 324 West St., Roan Mountain,
was arrested Friday by CCSD Sgt. Keith Range after officers
responded to the residence regarding an assault. Sally Hall,
38, same address, told officers that her husband had come
home intoxicated and an argument ensued. During the argument,
Mrs. Hall said her husband put his right hand up to the side
of her head as though he were holding a gun. She said she
pushed his hand away and he came around with his left hand,
which was holding a small revolver, and put it to her head.
Mrs. Hall said she knocked the gun from his hand,
got up from the couch, and her husband assaulted her, forcing
her out into the hallway of the apartment and locking the
door. Mrs. Hall also had bite marks on her arm. Norman Hall
was found in an intoxicated state at an apartment across from
the Halls' residence. He was charged with aggravated assault
under domestic violence and possession of a firearm while
intoxicated. At the jail, deputies ran a criminal history
on Hall which showed he had several felony convictions in
other states. He additionally was charged with possession
of a firearm by a felon and could face federal charges from
the firearms violations.
* Daniel Allen Patrick, 43, 119 Valley Lane,
Erwin, was arrested Sunday by CCSD Deputy Kenny Cornett at
Sycamore Shoals Hospital on a warrant charging him with failure
to appear on fines and costs on public intoxication and second-offense
DUI.
* Danny R. Troutman, 41, 138 Earl Ave., was arrested
Friday by CCSD Investigator Audrey Covington on a warrant
taken out by Lt. Jamie Jenkins, charging Troutman with theft
over $1,000.
* Patrick Norman, 217 Milligan Lane, Johnson
City, was arrested Friday by CCSD Investigator Audrey Covington
on a capias charging him with failure to appear on driving
on suspended and following too close.
* Robin Glenn Clawson, 30, 267 Cove Creek Road,
Roan Mountain, was arrested Friday by CCSD Deputy Jim Whaley
on a capias charging him with failure to appear on violation
of personal flotation device.
* Joe Buzz Pilkington, 26, 3439 Greenwood Drive,
Johnson City, was arrested Friday at the Carter County/Washington
County line on a charge of violation of probation.
* Molly Kathern Clawson, 29, 449 Bear Branch
Road, Roan Mountain, was arrested Friday by CCSD Deputy Bradley
Johnson on a capias charging her with failure to appear on
theft under $500.
* Michael Shane Sims, 24, 1256 Bluefield Ave.,
was arrested Friday by CCSD Deputy Jeff Markland after the
officer was dispatched to the Valley Forge area regarding
a vehicle, with one wheel on the rim, traveling northbound
on U.S. 19E. The officer stopped the vehicle as it turned
into Lynnwood Apartments. Sims was charged with third-offense
DUI, second-offense driving on revoked license, possession
of drug paraphernalia and violation of implied consent.
Fire
* Maj. Dave Ryan of CCSD Reserves was dispatched
Sunday to 123 Rosenbaum Private Drive regarding a house fire.
James Mann, 34, of the residence told the officer that he
had shut off his Kerosun heater and walked back into the kitchen
when he heard a loud pop and saw flames coming from the heater.
Mann was able to extinguish the blaze with flour. Members
of Watauga Volunteer Fire Department responded and removed
smoke from the house. No one was injured in the incident.
Fatality
* Melanie Suzanne Ambrose,
31, 1806 Triangle Road, Johnson City, was killed around 2:45
a.m. Sunday in a one-vehicle accident on Cherokee Road near
Sinking Creek. According to officers of Johnson City Police
Bureau, Ambrose's 1997 Ford Ranger was traveling west on Cherokee
Road when the driver lost control in a curve. The vehicle
ran off the left side of the road and overturned, ejecting
the driver. Ambrose was pronounced dead at the scene by the
Washington County Sheriff's Department deputy coroner. High
speed, alcohol consumption, and no seatbelt were contributing
factors in the accident. Johnson City Traffic Homicide Team
is continuing the investigation.
Robbery
* Officers of Johnson City
Police Bureau responded to a call Saturday at 111 Whitney
St., Johnson City. Billy Light told officers that he had been
walking in the 100 block of Wilson Avenue when he was approached
by three black males who assaulted him and robbed him of $185
at knifepoint. Light received a small laceration to the hand
and was treated at the scene. Anyone with information is asked
