Arrests
* A fugitive from Pennsylvania was captured Friday
by Carter County Sheriff's Department Deputy Laverne Julian
after the officer was dispatched to 125 Peaceful Valley Road
in Roan Mountain regarding a male subject in a blue car with
Pennsylvania tags. The officer observed a blue Corsica in
the driveway and upon running the tag number, the vehicle
came back stolen. Further information showed that the vehicle
reportedly was stolen by Charles Robert Trone, 48, 855 York
St., Hanover, Pa., who was believed to be armed. Deputy Julian
walked up to the car and noticed someone lying back in the
driver's seat, covered with a blanket. The officer knocked
on the window and the man pulled the blanket from his head.
The officer had him exit the vehicle, then searched and cuffed
him as a safety precaution. After running Trone's name through
the National Crime Information Center, it was found that he
was wanted on an outstanding warrant for unauthorized use
of a vehicle and theft of a .22-caliber rifle. Trone was arrested
and charged with being a fugitive from justice. He was being
held in Carter County Jail awaiting extradition from Pennsylvania.
According to Sheriff John Henson, Trone and his girlfriend
had been in the area previously visiting an acquaintance.
"Apparently him and her had broken up and he came back and
said he wanted to talk to the lady down here." Sheriff Henson
said the stolen weapon had not been recovered. "Laverne did
do a good job. It was good investigation and good police work
on his behalf," Henson said.
* Christie Ann Brown, 26, 600 Trudy St., was
arrested Thursday by Elizabethton Police Department Ptl. Tonya
Scott after the officer was dispatched to the area of Johnson
Avenue in front of J&W Market regarding an auto accident.
Brown was charged with driving on suspended license and failure
to provide proof of insurance.
* Richard Zorawski, 22, 1462 Broad St., was arrested
Thursday by EPD Ptl. Michael Merritt following a traffic stop.
Zorawski was charged with speeding, driving on revoked license
and violation of financial responsibility law.
* Robert Jessee Frost, 38, 217 Knob Creek Road,
Johnson City, was arrested Thursday by CCSD Deputy Kenneth
Cornett on a warrant out of General Sessions Court charging
him with violation of probation.
* Jerry Wayne Shell Jr., 31, 193 William Perkins
Road, Roan Mountain, was arrested Thursday by CCSD Deputy
Bradley Johnson on a warrant charging him with leaving the
scene of an accident and driving on revoked license.
Clarification
* A house destroyed by fire Wednesday at 116
Lewis Blevins Road belonged to Samra Coffey, not Dave Renfro,
as previously reported. Renfro does live at the residence,
however. According to CCSD Deputy Brad Hamm, Coffey's dog
that stays inside the residence woke her up by barking. Coffey
got out of bed to see what the dog was barking at and found
her living room engulfed in flames. She then got her children
out of the house and went to a neighbor's to call 911.
