Arrests

   * A 17-year-old male from Piney Flats was arrested Saturday by Elizabethton Police Department Ptl. Mike McIntosh after the officer was dispatched to Grindstaff Chevrolet regarding a juvenile who was attempting to fraudulently purchase a 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 truck. Brad Wishon of Grindstaff told the officer that the juvenile had come to the dealership the previous day and expressed an interest in buying the truck. Wishon said the juvenile's driver's license displayed a date of birth of July 13, 1979. Wishon said the juvenile also gave them a check stub which showed he was employed as an electrician for Rice Electric and that he made $24,000 a year. Wishon said the juvenile completed and signed a credit application and buyer's contract and was allowed to take the vehicle home with him overnight. Wishon said that on Saturday, the juvenile's mother called Grindstaff and advised them that her son had used a fake ID to obtain the vehicle and that she was bringing her son and the truck back to Grindstaff and requested the dealership contact police. The officer returned to Grindstaff around 12:30 p.m. Saturday and spoke with the juvenile and his mother. Investigation revealed that the juvenile had used an altered driver's license with a fictitious date of birth. He also told the officer that he was unemployed and had never worked at Rice Electric, and that he had made the check stub on a computer. Investigation revealed the juvenile also had used an altered license to purchase a motorcycle from Jim's Motorcycle in Johnson City. The juvenile was charged with forgery and possession of an altered license. He was transported to the police department and issued a juvenile summons. His mother told the officer she did not believe her son would show up for court and agreed to pay for her son's stay in the Johnson City Juvenile Detention Center.
