Mrs. Kathryn May Ukele, 76, 110 Renee Drive, Johnson City, formerly of Bluefield Avenue, Lynnwood Apartments, Elizabethton, died Monday, April 12, 1999, at her residence following a brief illness.
Mrs. Ukele was a native of Mishawaka, Ind., and had been a resident of this area since 1974. She was a daughter of the late Ira and Ava Belle McKinstry Holderman and was also preceded in death by her husband, Otto Carl Ukele Sr., in 1998, and a brother.
Survivors include three daughters, Ava Cooper, Judy Kilian and Carol Garland, all of Johnson City; a son, Otto Carl Ukele Jr., Johnson City; two sisters, Betty Halasi, Niles, Mich., and Phyllis Jerris, Port Charlotte, Fla.; and two brothers, Arthur Holderman, Osceola, Ind., and James Holderman, Saginaw, Mich. Thirteen grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

James A. "Jim" Bradley, 76, 711 West "E" Street, Elizabethton, died Monday, April 12, 1999, at the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center at Mountain Home following a short illness.
Mr. Bradley was a native and lifelong resident of Carter County and a son of the late Alfred T. and Hattie Legg Bradley. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Webb Bradley, in 1979, and by three sisters.
Mr. Bradley was a retired heavy equipment operator with the City of Elizabethton. He was an Army Veteran of World War II and a volunteer at the Veterans Hospital at Mountain Home. He was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church and a member of the Chancel Choir and the Fellowship Sunday School Class.
Survivors include a son, Richard James Bradley, Elizabethton; a daughter, Brenda Jones, Canton, Ga.; four sisters, Helen Jack, Elizabethton, Edna Perry, Tampa, Fla., Virginia Allen of Florida, and Verna McLain, Knoxville; a grandson, Wesley Bradley, Elizabethton; and two granddaughters, Erin Bradley, Elizabethton, and Jaimie Jones, Canton, Ga. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Willie Mae Bulman, 89, of Johnson City, died Sunday, April 11, 1999, at Lakebridge Health Care Center, Johnson City.
Mrs. Bulman was a native of Bluefield, Va., and the daughter of the late Noah and Lorenda Buchanan. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Bulman, four brothers and three sisters.
Mrs. Bulman was a homemaker. She attended Antioch Baptist Church.
Survivors include a sister, Ruth Huffine, Elizabethton, and several nieces and nephews.

Louis D. Ingram, 62, 163 Buck Creek Road, Roan Mountain, died unexpectedly Sunday, April 11, 1999, at Sloop Memorial Hospital, Crossnore, N.C.
Mr. Ingram was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Virgil and Rhea Gray Ingram. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Julia Woods Ingram, and a brother, Gerald Ingram.
Mr. Ingram was of the Baptist faith and was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include three sons, Tim Ingram, Elk Park, N.C., Vender Ingram and Tommy Ingram, both of Florida; a daughter, Lori Ingram, of Florida; and two step-sons, Tom Woods, Newland, N.C., and Melvin Woods, Morganton, N.C. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Sterling Herd Baird, 69, 913 Elliott Street, Elizabethton, died Sunday, April 11, 1999, at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following an extended illness.
Mr. Baird was a native of Carter County and a son of the late William and Nora McCloud Baird. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Baird was a retired employee of the Paty Company. He was a member of the Poga Church of Christ and was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Williams Baird; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Shelia and Kenneth Matherly and Rita and Henry Davis, all of Elizabethton, Connie Baird, Daytona Beach, Fla., and Laura Baird, of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Benny and Kelly Baird, Johnson City, and Eddie Baird, Elizabethton; two brothers, Clyde Baird, High Point, N.C., and Darnel Baird, Elizabethton; and three sisters, Hattie Miller, Butler, Cordelia Cable and Rose Potter, both of Elizabethton. Mrs. Juanita Brackins Perry, 86, Rt. 1, Massachusetts Avenue, Unicoi, died Friday, April 9, 1999, at Johnson City Medical Center.
Mrs. Perry was a native of Yancey County, N.C., but had lived most of her life in Unicoi County. She was a daughter of the late Melvin Fuller and Bertha Adkins Brackins and was also preceded in death by her husband, Dillard E. Perry, January 21, 1992, an infant grandson, Ronald Bennick Fox, a brother, Ward Brackins, and two sisters, Arnold Moore and Velma Williamson.
In 1979, Mrs. Perry retired from the Unicoi County Board of Education, where she had been employed as bookkeeper for the Unicoi County High School for 14 years. She had previously been employed by Southern Pottery of Erwin. She was a member of the Unicoi Missionary Baptist Church and had served as choir director for many years.
Mrs. Perry was a member of the Unicoi Order of Eastern Star #276. She was the recipient of the 1986 Unicoi Ruritan Woman of the Year Award.
Survivors include a son, Maynard Perry, Melbourne, Fla.; a daughter, Dolores Ann Fox, Unicoi; two brothers, Ernest Brackins, Erwin, and C.W. Brackins, Gastonia, N.C.; three grandchildren, Ronnie Perry, Melbourne, Fla., Connie Simpson, Tallahassee, Fla., and Melissa "Missy" Peters, Unicoi; and four great-grandchildren, Patrick Simpson, Tallahassee, Fla., Christopher Peters and Laura Peters, both of Unicoi, and Suzanne Simpson, Tallahassee, Fla. Helen Thomas Dugger, 69, 889 Sycamore Shoals Road, Elizabethton, died Thursday, April 8, 1999, at her residence following an extended illness.
Mrs. Dugger was a native of Carter County, but had lived several years in Pottstown, Pa. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Nellie Robinson Thomas. She was preceded in death by two sons: James D. Dugger and Walter Burton Dugger, two brothers and one sister.
Mrs. Dugger was of the Church of God faith.

Mr. Spencer Marvin Lester, 70, Raven Va., died April 8, 1999, in an Abingdon, Va., hospital following a brief illness.
He was born in Council, Va., and was the son of the late Jay and Genora Duty Lester, both Buchanan County natives. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers.
He was retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation, where he had worked for more than 30 years. He had made his home in the Richlands area for the past 27 years. He was a member of Community Heights Baptist Church in Claypool Hill, Va.

Ms. Perry was a member of Butler Baptist Church and a former employee of North American Rayon Corp. She was a graduate of Watauga Academy and Steed Business College.

Mrs. Taylor was a native of Johnson County and a daughter of the late Edward B. and Zola Morefield Moody. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dana Taylor.
Mrs. Taylor was a housewife.
Survivors include a stepson, Tony Taylor, Elizabethton, and four sisters, Eula Taylor, Elizabethton, Lola Mae Pardue, Jennie Lee Moody and Mary Ellen Greer, all of Mountain City. Two step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Gene Baker Davis, 69, 1700 Lone Oak Road, #9, Johnson City, died Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Baker was a native of Kingsport and grew up in Erwin. He had spent the last 20 years in Johnson City. He was a son of the late Jefferson Lee Davis and Ivah Baker Davis Goforth and was also preceded in death by a son, Christopher Lee Davis.
Mr. Davis was a hospital corpsman with the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a graduate of East Tennessee State University and received anesthetist training at the University of Tennessee-Memphis, College of Medicine. He was a retired certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) and a substance abuse counselor and was active in the leadership of Alcoholics Anonymous. He was a member of the Sims Hill Christian Church, Elizabethton.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Jean Hagie Davis; two daughters, Teresa Janes and Melodie Davis, both of Palm Desert, Calif.; a brother, J.L. "Rod" Davis, Erwin; and three sisters, Margaret Lowe and Billie Lloyd, both of Johnson City, and Marilyn Ross, Benton, Tenn. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mrs. Mary Depew Underwood Kidd, 85, 521 Ely Road, Hixson, died Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at Hamilton County Nursing Home, Chattanooga, after a brief illness.
Mrs. Kidd was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Roy B. Depew Sr. and Mabel Buck Depew. She was also preceded in death by two husbands, Wilkins Underwood and Samuel W. Kidd, a sister, Bennie Depew, and six brothers, R.B. Depew Jr., Clyde Depew, Bill Depew, Robert Depew, James Depew and Walter Depew.
Mrs. Kidd had lived in Chattanooga for the past 11 years. She was a retired bookkeeper with Summers Hardware, Johnson City. She was a graduate of Happy Valley High School. She was a member of East Side Free Will Baptist Church but attended the White Oak United Methodist Church, Hixson.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Ethel Underwood, Chattanooga; a brother and seven sisters-in-law, John and Mary Depew, Johnson City, Ann Depew, Sharon Depew, Virginia Depew, Agnes Depew, Joyce Depew and Willie Depew; two grandchildren, Charles Underwood, Hixson, and Steve Underwood, Manchester, Tenn.; and a great-grandson, Kyle Underwood. H. Dwight "Red" Treadway, 77, 113 Dakota Avenue, Elizabethton, died Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at his residence.
Mr. Treadway was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Ben F. and Lillie Nave Treadway. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Hyder Treadway, in 1996, and by three sisters and three brothers.
Mr. Treadway was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation and Interstate Life Insurance Company and was a member of Central Baptist Church, Johnson City. He was an Army Veteran of World War II.
Survivors include a son, Dwight Treadway II, Elizabethton; three daughters, Judy Hodge and Terri Knapp, both of Johnson City, and Robin Thomas, Jonesborough; and three brothers, Charles Treadway, Elizabethton, Lawrence Treadway of Oregon, and Ben Treadway, Johnson City. Eight grandchildren, a great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews also survive.

John L. Bellamy, 80, 524 East Main Street, Mountain City, died Tuesday, April 6, 1999, at Johnson City Medical Center.
Mr. Bellamy was a native of Ohio but had made his home in Johnson County for several years. He was a son of the late John L. and Hattie Bellamy and was also preceded in death by his wife, Elveta G. Bellamy, May 3, 1995.
Mr. Bellamy was a retired employee of TVA and a former school teacher with the Johnson County School System. He was a Veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, were he was active in the church choir and served as coordinator of the Pantry Fund. He also served on the Upper East Tennessee Human Development Agency, the Mountain City Planning Commission, Chair of Families First, First Tennessee Private Industry Counsel, Johnson County Tax Equalization Board, Johnson County Safety Committee and was a member of the Parks and Recreation Board.
Survivors include 10 sons, Danny Bellamy, Upper Marlboro, Md., Gregg Bellamy, St. Louis, Mo., James Bellamy, John Bellamy Jr. and Mark Bellamy, all of Bristol, Mike Bellamy, Upper Marlboro, Md., Paul Bellamy, Elizabethton, Phillip Bellamy, Johnson City, Rick Bellamy, Mountain City, and Ronnie Bellamy, Raleigh, N.C., and three daughters, Flora Bellamy and Ina Bellamy, both of Mountain City, and Phyllis Blue, Bristol. Twenty-three grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Ms. Garland was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late William and Mary Davis Cole. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Garland, September 10, 1970, two sisters and a brother.
Ms. Garland was a member of the Stoney Creek Baptist Church and a former employee of Bemberg Corporation. She also belonged to the Stoney Creek Quilting Club.

Mrs. Lehman was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Lehman.

Mrs. Pauline Davis Street, 82, 7 South Hills Circle, Johnson City, died Tuesday, April 6, 1999, at Johnson City Medical Center following a short illness.
Mrs. Street was a native of Newport and had lived in Carter County since 1940. She was a daughter of the late Hugh L. and Daisy Wisecarver Davis and was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Street, in 1987, seven brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Street was a retired Registered Nurse from the Johnson City Eye Hospital with 41 years of service and was the Operating Room Supervisor for 28 years of that service. She was a U.S. Army Nurse, serving in World War II. She was a member of the Operating Room Nursing Association and a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Edith Street, Johnson City; a brother, Fred Davis, White Pine; a sister, Ruby Cobble, Morristown; and three granddaughters, Jacqui Steadman, Pam Hawkins and Penny Street, all of Johnson City. Harold L. Clark, 73, of Elizabethton, died Monday, April 5, 1999, at his home after an extended illness.
Mr. Clark was a native of Washington County, Va., and had lived in Michigan for 51 years where he was retired from the Chrysler Corporation after 32 years of service. He had been a resident of Elizabethton since 1980.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Patton-Crosswhite VFW Post #6975. He attended Pleasant Beach Baptist Church of Elizabethton.
Mr. Clark was preceded in death by his father, W.F. Clark, his mother, Farrah Clark, his step-mother, Maude Clark, and a brother, Paul Clark.
Survivors include his wife, Dora Jane Clark; four sisters, Virginia Goodman, Hawthorne, Calif., Edith Litton and Marie Meadows, both of Bristol, and Martha Helbert, Bristol, Va.; many special sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Clark is also survived by two special little buddies, Kyle Leonard, age 19 months, and Nolan Leonard, age 17 months.

Nancy L. Roberts, 64, 3001 Gap Creek Road, Hampton, died Sunday, April 4, 1999, at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following an extended illness.
Mrs. Roberts was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Bart T. Smith Sr. and Clara Talbert Smith. She was also preceded in death by three sisters.
Mrs. Roberts was of the Free Will Baptist Faith and was an employee of the Carter County Board of Education as custodian at Hampton Elementary School.
Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Donald L. Roberts, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Perry Rambo and Donna and John Papantoniou, all of Elizabethton; two grandchildren, Lonnie Harding and his wife, Amy, and Nicholas Papantoniou, all of Elizabethton; a great-granddaughter, Shelby Harding, Elizabethton; three sisters; two brothers; and her mother-in-law, Belle Roberts. Mrs. Julie E. Trivett, 94, 4256 Highway 321 Butler, died Monday, April 5, 1999, at Unicoi County Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
Mrs. Trivett was a native of Johnson County and had lived in Carter County most of her life. She was a daughter of the late Joseph and Martha Dyer Berry and was also preceded in death by her husband, William Paul Trivett, in 1985, five brothers and a sister.
Mrs. Trivett was a homemaker and former owner-operator, with her husband, of the Trivett Grocery in Butler. She was a member of the Little Milligan Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Ruby and Albert Lewis, Spring City, Tenn., and June and Roy Wagner, Butler, and a sister, Sarah Hyder, Elizabethton. Five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Darryl Luke Byrd, 34, 127 Cates Corner, Hampton, died Sunday, April 4, 1999, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Mr. Byrd was a native of Washington County and the son of Lawrence Byrd, Johnson City, and Lucille Ward Miller and step-father, Robert Miller, Johnson City.
Mr. Byrd was of the Pentecostal Faith and was an employee of Baxter Health Care. He was preceded in death by a sister, his paternal grandparents and his maternal grandmother.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Farmer Byrd, of the home; two step-sons, Anthony White, Johnson City, and Joshua White, of the home; a step-daughter, Vangelia White, of the home; a sister, Brenda Dowell, Mountain City; five brothers, Allen Byrd, Limestone, Joel Byrd, Kevin Byrd, Ivan Kim Byrd and Wade Byrd, all of Johnson City; and his maternal grandfather, Howard Ward, Elizabethton. Myrtle E. Hyder, 92, formerly of 142 Coal Chute Road, Elizabethton, died Monday, April 5, 1999, at Hermitage Nursing Home following an extended illness.
Mrs. Hyder was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Webb and Lorine Vandeventer Williams. She was also preceded in death by her husband, A. Hobart Hyder, March 19, 1957, an infant son, Aaron Hobart Hyder, a son, Hobart Duane Hyder, September 29, 1997, and a sister, Edith Kyte.
Mrs. Hyder was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church and a retired school teacher with the Carter County Board of Education having taught for 30 years at Valley Forge Elementary School, mostly third grade. She earned her B.S. Degree at East Tennessee State College in 1962. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association.

Willa S. Jaynes, 43, of Houston Texas, died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at Ben Taub Hospital, Houston, following an extended illness.
Willa was a native of Carter County and had resided in Houston for a number of years. She was the daughter of Bill and Georgia Jaynes, Elizabethton.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include a daughter and son-in-law, Trinety and Roy Schimmel, Knoxville; a sister and brother-in-law, Sheila and Bill Jones, Houston, Texas; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy and Michelle Jaynes, Elizabethton, and Brad and Della Jaynes, Blountville; two nieces, Melinda Sexton, Elizabethton, and Billie C. Renshaw, Maryville; three nephews, Justin Jaynes, Brandon Jaynes and Tyler Jaynes, all of Elizabethton; and three great-nephews, Matthew Sexton, Elizabethton, Christian Renshaw and Skyler Vineyard, both of Maryville.

Mrs. Fannie F. Livesay, 90, of Johnson City, died Sunday, April 4, 1999, at her residence.
Mrs. Livesay was a native of Blackwater, Va., and a daughter of the late Jack and Lucy Bledsoe Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Loyd Livesay, two daughters, Brenda Lou Livesay and Deborah Sue Livesay, four sisters and two brothers.
Mrs. Livesay had attended Pinecrest Baptist Church in Johnson City for approximately the last 20 years where she was a member of the Homemakers Sunday School Class. She had attended Burke's Union Church in Blacksburg, Va.
Survivors include a daughter, Vauneva Jennings, Johnson City, and five sons, Joseph M. Livesay, Blackwater, Va., William R. Livesay, Johnson City, Lloyd D. Livesay and Larry W. Mrs. Roberts was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Bart T. Smith Sr. and Clara Talbert Smith. She was also preceded in death by three sisters.
Mrs. Roberts was of the Free Will Baptist Faith and was an employee of the Carter County Board of Education as custodian at Hampton Elementary School.

Stansell A. Arnold, 83, 436 Pine Orchard Road, Butler, died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at his residence after a brief illness.
Mr. Arnold was a native of Johnson County and a son of the late Grant and Cora Davis Arnold. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Golda Estep, and a brother, Lawton Arnold.
Mr. Arnold retired from the Johnson County Highway Department. Since his retirement, he had been employed by the U.S. Forestry Service as Caretaker at Backbone Rock. He was a member of Little Doe Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Stout Arnold; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Shirley Wright, Lenoir City, Maxine and Charles Corum, Mountain City, and Brenda and Roland Reece, Butler; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ross Arnold, Mountain City, and Roy and Mary Arnold, Butler; a sister, Mrs. Onnie Pleasant, Augusta, Ga.; and a brother, Windom Arnold, Butler. Mrs. Velma Rupe Berry, 87, 935 DeJarnette Street, Elizabethton, died Friday, April 2, 1999, at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness.
Mrs. Berry was a native of Washington County and had lived in Carter County for 50 years. She was a daughter of the late Edward W. and Nannie A. Archer Rupe and was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul H. Berry, in 1992, three brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Berry was a member of the First Christian Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol Randy Berry, Houston, Texas; two grandsons, Russell Kevin Fair and Adam Keith Fair, of the home; and a sister, Eva D. Rupe, Limestone. Two nieces also survive.

Mrs. Mary Maxine Moody Duncan, 819 Walker Street, Elizabethton, died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital after a brief illness.
Mrs. Duncan was a native of Foscoe, N.C., and a daughter of the late Lee and Jennie Gragg Moody.
Mrs. Duncan had lived in Elizabethton since 1938. She worked for the F.W. Woolworth's Store from 1938 until 1976 and retired as manager of the store. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elizabethton for over 60 years where she was a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class and the Circle-Current Mission Group. She was a former member of the B&PW Club and the Sycamore Chapter #163, Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband, W.A. Mrs. Vista Viola Garland, 88, Rt. 8, Johnson City, died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at NHC Healthcare following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Garland was a native of Mitchell County, N.C., and a daughter of the late Will and Polly McKinney. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Garland, in 1993, two sons, Phil E. Garland and Jack W. Garland, a daughter, Cleo Marie Garland, a brother and two sisters.
Mrs. Garland had lived in Carter County for 63 years. She was a member and co-founder of the Church of Jesus.
Survivors include three sons, Millard M. Garland and Ted H. Garland, both of Johnson City, and Jess W. Rollin Kent Hicks, 77, 2509 E. Lakeview Drive, Regal Manor, Johnson City, died Friday, April 2, 1999, at the James H. Quillen Veterans Administration Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Hicks was a native of Bluff City and the son of the late John L. and Blanche Cretsinger Hicks.
Mr. Hicks served his country during World War II in the United States Navy with the 73rd Seabee Battalion. He retired in 1984 from the Engineering Department of Tennessee Eastman Company. He was a member of First Christian Church of Bluff City and later the Oakwood Forest Christian Church in Kingsport.
He was Past Patron of the Eastern Star and Past Member of the Zollicofer Masonic Lodge. He was also Past Commander and Chaplain of the Johnson City Power Squadron, Ham Radio Operator (WA4GFD), Emergency Civil Defense and Mars.
Mr. Hicks was also a volunteer with the Mended Hearts Association of the Johnson City Medical Center. He had a lifelong love of art, boating and fishing.

Willard Clyce Lewis, 69, 152 Grace Lewis Road, Elizabethton, died Friday, April 2, 1999, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital after a brief illness.
Mr. Lewis was a native of Carter County and a son of the late James Paul and Grace Davis Lewis. He was also preceded in death by two brothers.
Mr. Lewis had been in law enforcement for 24 years. He retired as Captain from the Elizabethton Police Department and previously had been employed by the Carter County Sheriff's Department. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the Mill Creek Baptist Church, Saint Augustine, Fla.

Mr. Norris was a native of Hampton and had lived in Johnson City for the past 21 years. He was a son of the late Floyd and Mamie Johnson Norris.
Mr. Norris was a retired employee of Tennessee Eastman and was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church of Johnson City.

Mr. Norris was a member of the Gideons International Johnson City South Camp where he served as the Camp Memorial Bible Chairman. Doyle was also known as '"'the Gideon Man'"'at the Steward Hall Cancer Treatment Center. Doyle was employed by Tennessee Eastman where he retired January 1999, after 29 years of service. Mrs. Ora Glenna Oliver, 79, 982 Old Gray Station Road, Gray, died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at her residence following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Oliver was a native of Sullivan County but had lived most of her life in Washington County. She was a daughter of the late Daniel and Bertha Oliver Bowers and was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Paul Oliver, in 1994, four brothers and four sisters.
Mrs. Oliver was a homemaker and a member of Midway Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Janette Foxx Conley and Carolyn Gouge, both of Gray; a son, Robert Wayne Oliver, Johnson City; a brother, Howell Bowers, Chuckey; three granddaughters, Cindy Oliver Walker, Jana Gouge Wilson and Tammy Oliver Wilson; and a grandson, Jay P. Gouge. Four great-grandsons, a great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Sarah K. Roark, 64, 818 East A. Street, Elizabethton, died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at her residence following an extended illness.
Ms. Roark was a native of Bland County, Va., having lived in Elizabethton most of her life. She was the daughter of the late R.J. and Mae South Pauley and was also preceded in death by her husband, Hillman Roark, in 1987, and a son, Eddie Roark.
Ms. Roark was a homemaker and a member of East Side Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, David and Ellen Roark, Elizabethton; a daughter-in-law, Pat Roark, Elizabethton; a brother, James Pauley, Elizabethton; three sisters, Pat Richardson, Elizabethton, Anna Lou Branch and Ruth Jones, both of Martinsville, Va.; and two grandsons, Matthew and Lucas Roark, both of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Willie Edward Webb, 66, 200 Ridgecrest Drive, Elizabethton, died Saturday morning, April 3, 1999, at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Webb was a native of Carter County and a member of the First Baptist Church where he was the Assistant Sunday School Teacher for the Four Square Sunday School Class. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and had been employed by the Carter County Health Center where he serve as Chief Environmentalist for Carter, Johnson and Unicoi Counties for 15 years. He was retired from the Isothermal Planning and Development Commission in Rutherfordton, N.C.
He was a graduate of East Tennessee State University where he had received a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Master of Science in Environmental Health. While attending college he was employed at Tetrick Funeral Home. He was formerly selected as Carter County Man of the Year and was also selected as state of Tennessee Environmentalist of the Year. Mr. Webb served on the State of Tennessee Certificate of Need Board for E.T.S.U., James H. Quillen College of Medicine. He was also a board member of the state of North Carolina Health Planning Commission and was a member and officer of the American Legion, Watauga Post #49, Elizabethton.
Mr. Webb was preceded in death by his mother, Essie Lovelace Webb.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanetta Branch Webb, of the home; a son, Kenneth '"'Kenny'"' Edward Webb, 1521 Robin Hood Lane, Johnson City; two daughters, Mona Kathryn '"'Kathy'"' Webb, of the home, and Mrs. Kaye Michelle Garland, 202 East G. Street, Elizabethton; a son-in-law, Chris Garland, 202 East G. Street, Elizabethton; his father and step-mother, Noah and Blonnie Myers Webb, Webb Hollow Loop, Elizabethton; a sister, Margie Webb Walker, Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, Dr. Steve Webb, Johnson City; and a grandson, Sumner Allen Garland, 202 East G. GlynEllyn Wiseman, 51, 318 Greenway Drive, Johnson City, died Friday, April 2, 1999, at Johnson City Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Wiseman was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City and a daughter of Maxine Whitson Galloway and the late J.B. Galloway.
Mrs. Wiseman was a retired employee of the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center. She was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include two sons, Scott Wiseman and Jason Wiseman, both of Johnson City; a daughter, Shannon Wiseman Fritts, Johnson City; and four grandchildren, Lance Boyd, Allison Fritts, Dylan Wiseman and Justin Wiseman. Several cousins also survive.

Robert "Bud" Treadway, 88, 1114 Powder Branch Road, Elizabethton, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Treadway was a lifelong resident of Carter County and a son of the late Randolph R. and Grace VanHook Treadway. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Cecil Treadway, in 1979, four brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Treadway was a retired farmer. He was a World War II Army Veteran, having served in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe.
Survivors include a brother, A.L. "John" Treadway, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mrs. Mary Payne, 95, 332 Mountainview Road, Hampton, died Thursday, April 1, 1999, at Life Care Center of Elizabethton following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Payne was a native of Watauga County, N.C., a former resident of Johnson County and had lived in Carter County since 1979. She was a daughter of the late Adam and Virgie Link Hicks and was also preceded in death by her husband, Joe Payne, in 1957, a son, Arlis Payne, in 1980, three brothers and a sister.
Mrs. Payne was a member of the Sugar Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Gladys Rainbolt, Hampton, Bernice Perce, Elizabethton, and Maude Stout, W. Jefferson, N.C. Five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.

Thomas A. "Tom" Berry, 52, 182 Heather Lane, Johnson City, died Monday, March 29, 1999, at Johnson City Medical Center.
Mr. Berry was a native of Washington County and had lived most of his life in this area. He was a son of the late Leroy Anson and Rosa Triplett Berry.
Mr. Berry was a salesman with Crown Coffee Vending Company, Church Hill, and a member of the Kingsport unit of the Army National Guard. He attended Knob Creek Church of the Brethren. He had been active with the Johnson City Parks and Recreation Department with umpiring and scorekeeping.
Survivors include his very special companion, Jan Lowe, Johnson City; a sister, Mrs. Harlis (Rosalie) Cox, Kingsport; and a brother, Leroy A. Berry, Cocoa, Fla. Seven nieces and nephews also survive.

Elwood Cable, 54, 175 Shook Branch Road, Hampton, died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
Mr. Cable was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Millard and Mary Stout Cable. He was also preceded in death by a son, Vonell Chris Cable, and two brothers.
Mr. Cable was retired due to disability from the AMERACE Corporation after 15 years of service. He was a Decorted Vietnam Veteran, having served in the U.S. Army, and was awarded the Purple Heart Three Times and the Bronze Star. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter #17. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Pennye Campbell Cable; a son and daughter-in-law, William "Marty" and Crystal Cable, Hampton; nine brothers, Rev. Daryl Cable, Marion, N.C., Ray Cable, Elizabethton, Rev. Lloyd Cable, Hickory, N.C., Ellis Cable, Jerry Cable, Gary Cable, Rev. Charles Cable, Rev. Donnie Cable, all of Butler, and Dale Cable, Hampton; two sisters, Deloris Hicks, Butler, and Susie Carter, Elizabethton; and a cousin, Jimmy Cable.

Mrs. Mathilde Fry, of Jonesboro, Ga., died Tuesday, March 30, 1999.
Mrs. Fry was a native of Frankfurt, Germany, and had lived in the United States for 45 years.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters and sons-in-law; a son and daughter-in-law; a sister, Mrs. Inge Ritchie, 502 Florence Avenue, Elizabethton; a niece, Margaret Ingram, Elizabethton; and a nephew, Ronald Ritchie, Elizabethton.
Funeral services and interment will be Friday in Jonesboro, Ga.

Luther H. Hodge III, 66, died Wednesday, March 28, 1999, at his home in Palm City, Fla.
Mr. Hodge was a native of Elizabethton and had lived in Palm City for the past 12 years, where he was President of the Fleet Trust Investment Company. He was a graduate of Elizabethton High School and East Tennessee State University. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Wootton Hodge, Palm City, Fla.; his mother, Dorothy Griffin Hodge, Bristol, Va.; a brother, Dr. Fred Hodge, Knoxville; a sister, Judy Crockett, Elizabethton; two sons, Mike Hodge, Dallas, Texas, and Thomas Hodge, Orlando, Fla.; and two daughters, Cathy Hooker of Arkansas and Carol Axtle, Denver, Colo. Four grandchildren also survive.
In lie of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Red Cross.
Entombment will be at Forest Hills Memorial Park in Palm City on Tuesday, April 6.
