Mrs. Eliza
Davis Grindstaff, 67, 250 Hart Road, Elizabethton, died Friday, June 9, 2000,
at Johnson City Medical Center.
Mrs. Grindstaff
was a native of Mitchell County, N.C., and a daughter of the late Dave and Etta
Street Davis. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Geneva Grindstaff,
and her husband, Delmar S. Grindstaff.
Mrs. Grindstaff
had lived in Elizabethton for a number of years. She was retired due to disability
from Care and Share and was a member of the Fairview Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors
include three daughters, Donna Roberts, Unicoi, Dorothy Marie Oliver, Roan Mountain,
and Elitha Kay Spock, Jacksonville, Fla.; three sons, Marshall Grindstaff and
Richard Dale Grindstaff, both of Elizabethton, and David Grindstaff, of the home;
a sister, Naomi Ledford, Bluefield, W. Va.; and a brother, Clarence Davis, Conover,
N.C. Nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.

Wiley
T. Hatley, 91, 155 Rye Branch Road, Butler, died Friday, June 9, 2000, at his
residence following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Hatley
was a native of Carter County and a son of the late William Skyles and Fannie
Davenport Hatley. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Eliza Faye Isaacs
Hatley, in 1993, two sons, Tom Hatley and J.D. Hatley, and by five brothers and
five sisters.
Mr. Hatley
was a retired employee of American Bemberg Corporation and a member of Elk River
Baptist Church.
Survivors
include three daughters, Geraldine Hatley, of the home, Thelma Stanton and Earlene
Garland, both of Butler; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dave and May Bell Hatley,
Dewey and Helen Hatley and Jessie Bud and Sharon Hatley, all of Butler; and a
brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Venoria Hatley, Barberton, Ohio. Twenty-three
grandchildren, several great and great-great-grandchildren and several nieces
and nephews also survive.

A. Hyder, 89, 357 Big Springs Road, Elizabethton, died Saturday, June 10, 2000,
at the residence of a daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and Floyd Snyder, 359 Big
Springs Road, following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Hyder
was a native of Johnson County, having lived in Carter County most of her life.
She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Martha Dyer Barry and was also preceded
in death by her husband, Herbert Hyder, five brothers, Walter, Elmer, Carl, Bill
and Earl, and two sisters, Ina Valeronis and Edith Trivett.
Mrs. Hyder
was a homemaker and a member of Sims Hill Christian Church.
Survivors
include a son and daughter-in-law, James H. and Linda Hyder, Elizabethton; two
daughters and sons-in-law, JoAnn and Floyd Snyder, Elizabethton, and Jewel and
Howard Ensor, Watauga; four grandchildren, Jimmy Hyder, Elizabethton, Janet Nelson,
Erwin, Eddie Rutter and Teddy Rutter, both of Hawaii; and three great-grandchildren,
Chase Nelson, Erwin, James Rutter and Joey Rutter, both of Hawaii. Several nieces
and nephews also survive.

was a certified nursing assistant and a member of the Mormon Church.
Survivors,
in addition to her parents, include her husband, Billy Kimberlin; a son, David
Malone, Poga; a daughter, Summer Carroll, Butler; two brothers and a sister-in-law,
Robert Church, Poga, and Jason and Tepancha Church, Elizabethton; and her maternal
grandmother, Stella Ward, Elizabethton. Several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews
also survive.

at Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness.
Mrs. Street
was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Herbert J. and Manarka
Brewer Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carter Street,
and three sisters, Ruby Arnett, Blanche Smith and Reba Cordell.
Mrs. Street
was a homemaker. She attended Marvin's Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors
include a son, Robert "Bob" Julian, Gray; four sisters, Hazel Parlier and Mae
Shell, both of Roan Mountain, Gladys Winters, of Texas, and Ruth Shoemaker, Wilkesboro,
N.C.; and a dear friend, Gladys Hodge, Jonesborough. Three grandchildren, seven
great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

was co-founder of Wiseman's Clothing Store where she retired following many years
of service. She was a member of Taylor Memorial Church.

Samuel
O. Pickering, 78, 1905 Knob Creek Road #20, Johnson City, died Wednesday, June
7, 2000, at Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport.
Mr. Pickering
was a native of Washington County and had lived most of his life in Johnson City
and Elizabethton. He was the son of the late Samuel H. and Lucy Sheets Pickering
and was also preceded in death by two sisters.
Mr. Pickering
was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, having served with the 28th Calvary Reconnaissance,
and was retired from employment as a sheet metal mechanic with North American
Rayon Corporation. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors
include his wife, Dorothy Smith Pickering, of the home; a son, Samuel O. Pickering
Jr., Johnson City; a daughter and son-in-law, Marcella and Lewis Daughtery, Jonesboro,

was a 1954 graduate of Elizabethton High School and a member of the Siam Baptist
Church.

in addition to her parents, include her husband, Luther L. Collins; a daughter
and son-in-law, Teresa Inez and Edward T. Hampton, Brunswick, Maine; a son and
his friend, Teddy Luther Collins and Patricia Dunn, Elizabethton; two brothers
and sisters-in-law, Billy and Evelyn Hamilton and Ted and Janice Hamilton, all
of Elizabethton; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Elizabeth Anne and Christopher
Davis; and a grandson, Jonathan Edward Hampton. Several nieces and nephews also

Va. -- Fronie D. Wright, 94, of the Hazel Mountain Community near Dante, died
Monday, June 5, 2000, at Dickenson County Medical Center in Clintwood.
Mrs. Wright
was a native of Virginia and the daughter of the late Oliver and Tabitha Jane
Kiser O'Quinn. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Frank Wright, and
a brother, Beecher O'Quinn.
Survivors
include a son, Eugene O'Quinn, Dante, Va., and five grandchildren, Mary O'Quinn,
Nancy Wright, Robert O'Quinn, Jeff O'Quinn and Mark O'Quinn. Twelve great-grandchildren
also survive.

was employed by Northeast Correctional Center as a guard. She was a member of
the Sink Valley Baptist Church.
