Pat R. Buck

   Pat Roosevelt Buck, 99, 173 Jim Buck Road, Johnson City, died Thursday, April 6, 2000, at Pine Ridge Care Center following an extended illness.

   Mr. Buck was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Landon and Mary Jones Buck. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lena Belle Little Buck, January 15, 1987, a son, Charlie Buck, October 26, 1983, and by four brothers and a sister.

   Mr. Buck was a retired carpenter with Summers-Taylor Construction Company, having worked there for 29 years. He attended the Central Church of Christ.

   Survivors include two grandsons, Pat Buck, Lexington, Ky., and Mike Buck, Johnson City; two great-grandchildren, Joseph Buck and Lora Lee Buck, both of Johnson City; his daughter-in-law, Delores Buck, Johnson City; two sisters, Mrs. Juanita Bridgeman, Hampton, and Mrs. Ruth Spoons, Lenoir, N.C.; a brother, Vestil Buck, Johnson City; and several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew and his wife, Gene and Mary Evelyn Buck, Elizabethton.

   Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Gladys J. Cottrell

   Gladys Jane Cottrell, 83, South Hills Drive, Elizabethton, died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at Johnson City Medical Center.

   Mrs. Cottrell was a native of Scott County, Va., and the daughter of the late Marion and Mary Lark Frazier. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harley Abner Cottrell, two brothers, four sisters and two great-grandchildren.

   Survivors include a daughter, Geraldine Shell, Elizabethton, 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

   A memorial service for Mrs. Cottrell will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, April 9, at The Church of God of Prophecy, 1113 Park Avenue, Elizabethton, with Pastor Marvin Slagle officiating.

Mamie I. Dillow

   Mamie Irene Dillow, 87, 114 Broadview Street, Kingsport, died Thursday, April 6, 2000, at Sunbridge Hillside Manor Care Center following a lengthy illness.

   Mrs. Dillow was a native of Scott County, Va. (Gate City) and had resided in Kingsport for the last 55 years. She was a daughter of the late John F. and Elsie M. Penley Smith and was also preceded in death by her husband, T.R. Dillow, and a son, Robert T. Dillow.

   Mrs. Dillow was a homemaker and a member of the State Line Baptist Church.

   Survivors include three daughters, Margaret A. Prichard, Elizabethton, Mary L. Kern, Highland, Mich., and Frances L. Lee, Kingsport; three sons, Thomas E. Dillow, of the home, Henry Dillow, Mt. Carmel, and John R. Dillow, Kingsport; a brother, John F. Smith Jr., Bristol, Va.; and a sister, Hazel Hilton, Fraser, Mich. Eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

   Chelsa D. Grindstaff, 89, 115 Mill Creek Road, Elizabethton, died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at the home of her daughter, Imogene Dykes, 702 Johnson Avenue, Elizabethton, following a brief illness.

   Mrs. Grindstaff was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Jacob and Carrie Greenwell Grindstaff. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George T. Grindstaff; a brother, Dewey Grindstaff; a sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Woodrow Smith; a brother-in-law, Bob Rose; and a son-in-law, Donald Dykes.

   Mrs. Grindstaff was an active member of Dungan's Chapel Baptist Church where she had served as Training Union secretary for many years.

   Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Imogene Dykes, Kate and Gordon Rodgers and Janice and Doug Fair, all of Elizabethton; a son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Rosemary Grindstaff, Brook Park, Ohio; a sister, Stella Rose, Loudon, Tenn.; two special granddaughters, Denise Ensor and Cathie Bowers, both of Elizabethton; a sister-in-law, Etta Grindstaff, Elizabethton; and four special friends, Beryl Ensor, Hazel Spears, Alma Kehrli and Sharon Livingston, all of Elizabethton. Twelve grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren also survive.

   Mrs. Emma Trobaugh, 81, 440 Highway 321, Hampton, died Thursday, April 6, 2000, at Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness.

   Mrs. Trobaugh was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late John and Juanita Gouge Odom. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Francis Trobaugh, in 1981, two sons, a daughter and two brothers.

   Mrs. Trobaugh was of the Baptist Faith.

   Survivors include a brother, Paul Odom, Hampton; a grandson, Brian White, Hampton; a granddaughter, Kathy Rihl, Homestead, Fla.; a great-granddaughter, Summer Timmons, Homestead, Fla.; and a great-grandson, Jon Christian White, Hampton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

   Ethel Marie Buchanan Vance, 67, 1224 Elk Park Highway, Newland, N.C., died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at her residence.

   Mrs. Vance was a native of Newland, N.C., and the daughter of the late Coyd and Rebecca Louise Childress. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Mable Louise McCoury.

   Mrs. Vance attended Elk Park Baptist Church and was employed as a seamstress at U.S. Textiles for 42 years.

   Survivors include her husband, Kermit "Peanut" Vance, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Coyd Marion "Bud" and Cynde Vance, Yorktown, Va., and Stan and Lorie Vance, Hiddenite, N.C.; two sisters, Frances Clark Boyd Ratcliff, Johnson City, and Mae Clark Greene, Boone, N.C.; three granddaughters, Becky Corrigan, Newland, N.C., Sara Vance, Hampton, Va., and Amber Marie Vance, Hiddenite, N.C.; three great-grandchildren, Jordan, Amy and Billy Corrigan, all of Newland, N.C.; and two step-grandchildren, Richard Dodd, Fort Worth Beach, Fla., and Jennifer Craig, Seymore Johnson Air Force Base, S.C. Earnest A. Blevins

   Earnest A. Blevins, 73, 1261 Bristol Highway, Elizabethton, died Monday, April 3, 2000, at Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness.

   Mr. Blevins was a native of Bristol, Va., and had lived in Elizabethton most of his life. He was the son of the late John and Bell Lilly Blevins and was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Nell Hawk, two brothers, Gleason and Henry Blevins, and four infant brothers.

   Mr. Blevins was a member of Chinquapin Grove Baptist Church and attended Biltmore Baptist Church and was active in the B & K Community Center. He was a former employee of Bemberg Industries and was also a carpenter. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, serving in Okinawa and Korea.

   Survivors include his wife, Mary Sue Glover Blevins, of the home; a sister, Ollie Shipley, Elizabethton; his step-mother, Mary Helbert, Elizabethton; and a half-sister, Armetta Blevins, Bristol. Two nieces and six nephews also survive.

   Myrtle Belle Lambert Dugger, 86, Gateway Nursing Center, died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at the Center.

   Mrs. Dugger was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late John C. and Nina Miller Lambert. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Oliver Dugger; three sons, Harold L. Dugger, John F. Dugger and Rev. J.C. Dugger; a great-grandson, Nicholas Lynn Arrowood; six brothers, J.W., Donald, John, Earl, Charles and Homer Lambert; and three sisters, Mae Staton, Della Daniels and Ruby McGinnis.

   Mrs. Dugger was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Whitnel.

   Survivors include two sons, William B. Dugger, Lenoir, N.C., and Rev. Darrel D. Dugger, Elizabethton; a daughter, Mrs. Janet Richardson, Lenoir, N.C.; and a brother, Ronda Lambert, Lenoir, N.C. Seventeen grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren also survive.

   Funeral services and interment were held Thursday in Lenoir, N.C.

   Mrs. Joyce McKesson, 56, 727 Watauga Avenue, Elizabethton, died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness.

   Mrs. McKesson was a native of Saint Clairsville, Ohio, and a daughter of the late Alberta Harnish Laisure. She was also preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Cline, two brothers and two sisters.

   Mrs. McKesson had lived in Elizabethton for several years. She attended Brown's Chapel.

   Survivors include her husband, Gary McKesson, of the home; a son, Jaylen, of the home; two daughters, Kimberly Cline and Sheryl Self, both of Elizabethton; a sister, Dorothy Shaw, Wellington, Ohio; five grandchildren, Nicole Cline, Stephanie Cline, Ashley Cline, Staci Self and Brian Self, all of Elizabethton; and a great-granddaughter, Kaylee Bolton, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

   Carolyn Maxwell Newsom, 55, 841 Blue Springs Road, Elizabethton, died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at her residence.

   Mrs. Newsom was a native of Moultrie, Ga., and the daughter of the late Aaron Carl and Ouida Bell Sewell Maxwell.

   Mrs. Newsom had lived in Elizabethton since 1996. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Moultrie, Ga., and was employed as a secretary at ETSU.

   Survivors include her husband, John S. Newsom Sr., of the home; two daughters, Leslie Guinn, of the home, and Stacy Roberts, Elizabethton; two brothers, Jimmy Maxwell, Moultrie, Ga., and Tommy Maxwell, Carrollton, Texas; two sisters, Peggy Maxwell, Wakefield, R.I., and Rhonda Gibbs, Moultrie, Ga.; and two step-sons, John S. Newsom Jr., of the home, and Shane Newsom, Norman Park, Ga. Eight grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews also survive.
