State officials speak on area's economic outlook

   The Tennessee Commissioner of the Department of Economic and Community Development (ECD) was in the Tri-Cities Tuesday to give an update on the economic future of the region. Tony Grande, the state commissioner, spoke to the public at the Tri-Cities Airport yesterday afternoon.
   Jim Hales, President of the Northeast Tennessee Technology Council, and Vivian Crymble, Executive Director of the council, also spoke. The Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce and Technology Council were also represented at the event.
   The occasion was an attempt to combine state and regional efforts in order to support economic development in East Tennessee. Representatives with the ECD stated that the organization is pleased to join local officials and business leaders in the support of technology and development, and to ensure that the industry continues to grow and provide jobs throughout the state.
   Several ways to support the technology industry were discussed at the event.
