Local Republicans vote 'no primary"
From Staff Reports
Carter County Republicans will not hold a primary
this upcoming election year. The Executive Committee of the
Carter County Republican Party nixed the primary for the first
time in over a quarter of a century in a meeting on the issue
at the Carter County Courthouse Wednesday. On a motion duly
submitted and seconded, argument both pro and con were submitted
by various committee members. The final vote was 8-2 against
a local level primary in 2002.
The Executive Committee also appointed planners
for the annual Lincoln Day event, typically scheduled for
February or March. A subcommittee will make a progress report
at an upcoming meeting, and the precise arrangements will
be announced at a later date.
