Markers available, free to veterans

Graves of many veterans buried in private cemeteries in Northeast Tennessee are eligible for military grave markers according to Deacon Bowers, chairman of the Elizabethton-Carter County Veterans War Memorial Committee.
"The Veterans Administration will provide flat bronze, granite or marble grave markers and upright marble or granite headstones to mark graves of veterans," Bowers said.
To request a grave marker, please contact David Batchelder, Veterans Service Officer for Carter County, at 542-1824, or Mrs. Carolyn Whaley, secretary at the Mountain Home National Cemetery in Johnson City, at 926-1171, Ext. 7814.
