City leaf collection begins Monday

From Staff Reports

The City of Elizabethton Public Works Department began curbside vacuum leaf collection on Monday, Nov. 3, and will continue through Jan. 31, 2004, or until all leaves are collected.
The entire city should be covered by Dec. 1, according to the department. The second round of leaf collection should be completed by Jan. 1, 2004, with final clean up completed by Jan. 31, 2004, according to the public works department.
The city requests residents to rake leaves in piles and place them at curbside only. Placing leaves into city streets, gutters or over storm drains is strictly prohibited by the city.
For citizens who generate a small amount of leaves and wish to bag their leaves, city sanitation crews will collect the bags on their regular garbage collection day, provided the leaves are placed curbside with other garbage containers.
The city asks for the cooperation and patience of citizens during the leaf collection process.
