Two arrested in connection with
stolen truck
From Staff Reports
Elizabethton Police Department officers were
able to locate a stolen truck, make two arrests in connection
with the crime, and return the truck to its owner just over
an hour after the truck was reported stolen.
Wednesday afternoon around 4:30 p.m., John Stanton,
owner of Stanton Janitorial Services, reported to EPD PTL
Richard Haney that someone had stolen his 1988 Dodge Ram pickup
truck from the property of his business, 337 West Elk Avenue.
Just over an hour later, Sgt. John Bailey observed
a truck matching the description traveling east on Elk Avenue
near the intersection of Hudson Drive. Bailey followed the
truck and called in the vehicle's tag number. After receiving
confirmation that the tag number matched the stolen truck,
Bailey stopped the driver of the vehicle.
Jerry Darrell Langford, 44, 2684 Bandys Springs
Road, N.C., was arrested and charged with DUI, theft over
$1,000 and violation of implied consent. The passenger in
the truck, Deborah Smith, 49, 411 14th St. SW, Hickory, N.C.,
was also arrested and charged with theft over $1,000 and public
intoxication.
