Fines and court costs on the rise

Elizabethton City Council Thursday night approved,
on first reading, new fines and court costs, "comparable to
those charged by neighboring cities," for Municipal Court.
The Elizabethton Municipal Code was last updated
in 1994, according to City Attorney Roger Day.
From February to July 2001, most citations issued
by the Elizabethton Police Department were for speeding, running
red lights, failure to yield, following too closely, and illegal
parking.
