Two Carter inmates indicted on felony
escape charges

Two Carter County Jail inmates were indicted
Tuesday by a Carter County Grand Jury on charges of felony
escape.
Mitchell Wayne Bowers, 26, 380 Old Mountain View
Road, escaped from the jail Aug. 5 after knocking a hole in
the ceiling of the cellblock with a broom handle. Bowers went
up a vent pipe and exited to the roof, jumped off a low area
of the roof and onto the ground.
Bowers was charged in two separate indictments
with felony escape, two counts of reckless endangerment, two
counts of felony evading arrest, possession of a prohibited
weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon,
aggravated burglary, and theft over $1,000.
Another inmate, Walter Lee Gunn, 38, 602 W. Main
St., Johnson City, was incarcerated at the jail, serving time
for violation of probation when he was granted work release.
Gunn failed to return from work release Feb. 19 and was picked
up on a warrant Sept. 4 by Sgt. Keith Range. He, too, was
charged with felony escape.
Other true bills returned Tuesday by the grand

on revoked license, two counts simple possession, possession
of drug paraphernalia, no seat belt, violation of open container,
violation of registration;
* Jody Charles Guy (two separate indictments),
two counts aggravated assault, vandalism, felony evading arrest;
* Jody A. Moore, theft over $1,000;
* Tammy Kay Cox McKinney, aggravated burglary,
theft over $500;
* Thomas Ray Cox Jr., aggravated burglary, theft
over $500;
* Dayton Leonard McNeal, public intoxication,
disorderly conduct;
* Florence Hartley, two counts sale of Schedule
IV;
* Terry Lynn Powers, public intoxication;
* Stephen Ancil Lewis, aggravated assault;
* Cynthia A. Shields, forgery;
* Jeremy M. Ward, DUI, violation of implied consent;
* Richard L. Potts, violation of worthless check;
* Gene Andrew Foshia, DUI;
* Kenneth W. Ellis, DUI, driving on revoked,
felony evading arrest, reckless endangerment;
* Daniel Ray Nelson, eight counts aggravated
burglary, four counts theft over $500, three counts theft
over $1,000;
