One critically injured in hit-and-run accident

  From Staff Reports
A woman was critically injured in a hit-and-run accident that occurred Tuesday evening on U.S. Highway 19E, according to the Carter County Sheriff's Department. Sheriff John Henson said the wreck happened around 5:30 p.m. while two cars were drag racing near a bridge in Hampton.
"A black Ford Mustang and a black Corvette were drag racing, and the Mustang lost control, hit the bridge and rode the rail into the cliff," Henson said.
Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Greg Marlowe was in charge of the accident, and he could not be reached at press time for further details, including the names of the injured.
Henson did say the driver of the Corvette left the scene of the accident and police were not able to locate the vehicle.
A male who was driving the Mustang was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, and a female passenger was transported by Wings Air Rescue to the Johnson City Medical Center, according to Henson.
