Eight inmates escape from Sullivan County Jail

BLOUNTVILLE - Eight inmates from the Sullivan County Jail escaped from the detention facility early Tuesday morning. One was apprehended but seven remained at large Tuesday night.
"The Sullivan County Jail authorities discovered an escape around 4:30 (Tuesday) morning," a released statement from the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office states. "Apparently, eight inmates went through the plumbing well to the venting and onto the roof. They tied their uniforms together to get off the roof."
After making their escape from the jail, the eight inmates went to the Sullivan County Board of Education garage building where they reportedly stole a 1994 Chevrolet S10 pickup. "The truck was found in Hawkins County wrecked on Mountain View Road just across the Sullivan County line," the SCSO release states.
James Reynolds, of Kingsport, was recaptured and was being held in the detention facility on charges of aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, 12 counts of forgery, three counts of theft over $1,000, two counts of driving on a revoked license and four counts of DUI.
According to Lt. Lisa Christian of the SCSO, officers of that department were still investigating the escape Tuesday evening and looking for the escapees.
Information released by the SCSO stated that some of the seven inmates who remained at large may be traveling in a 1997 gold Mazda Protégé with Virginia license plates which was reported stolen from Blountville.
The seven inmates who remain at large are:
* Josh Mosley, 25, of 1052 Fairway Ave., Kingsport, who was detained at the facility awaiting trial on a charge of attempted second degree murder. He is described as a white male with red hair and blue eyes, approximately five feet, three inches tall and weighing approximately 130 pounds.
* Joseph Oren Samples, Jr., 21, of Afton, who was in the detention facility awaiting trial on a charge of sexual battery. He is described as a white mail with brown hair and green eyes, approximately five feet, five inches tall and weighing approximately 160 pounds.
* George Simpson, 27, of Terrehaute, Ind., who was serving time in the facility as a federal inmate charged with three counts of felony reckless endangerment, possession of more than one-half ounce of marijuana, manufacturing marijuana and driving on a suspended license. He is described as a white mail with brown hair and hazel eyes, approximately six feet, one inch tall and weighing approximately 180 pounds.
* Jeff Begley, 28, of 1912 Oakwood Ave., Kingsport, was serving a 180 day sentence in the facility after being convicted of assault, fourth offense DUI, violation of the open container law and failure to appear in court. He is described as a white male with brown hair and blue eyes, approximately five feet, 10 inches tall and weighing approximately 145 pounds.
* Brian Keith Morrell, 23, of 524 Brookdale Drive, Piney Flats, was serving time in the facility as a state inmate after being convicted of possession of stolen property, possession of drug paraphernalia, theft, forgery, possession of a stolen credit card, evading arrest and being a fugitive from justice. He is described as a white male with brown hair, green eyes, approximately five feet, four inches tall and weighing approximately 145 pounds.
* Donald Joiner, 21, of 895 Emmett Road, Bristol, was serving time at the facility as a state inmate after being convicted of statutory rape, theft over $10,000 and vandalism over $10,000. He is described as a white male with brown hair and blue eyes, approximately five feet, 10 inches tall and weighing approximately 180 pounds.
* Rodney Gilbert, 26, of 1022 Reedy Place, Kingsport, was serving time in the facility as a state inmate after being convicted of theft over $500, assault, driving on a revoked license, resisting arrest, being a habitual traffic offender and failure to appear in court. He is described as a white male with blond hair, blue eyes, approximately five feet, seven inches tall and weighing approximately 140 pounds.
